One more, I called Verizon Customer Service and, the representative wasn't sure, but it seems like they've upgraded their network very recently so anyone who purchased the LG VX8300 in the past few days (like me) will not have the option to save their own music as ringtones. The guy I spoke to said the only option is to buy ringtones through VCAST. I asked him to file my phone conversation as a complaint.
I encourage you guys to dial *611 from your phone and file a complain too. F**K Verizon!
Im sure there's an hidden option somewhere in the phone, I just have to find it now.

I know you're frustrated, but something is simply missing.
The Verizon guy is telling you only what he is allowed to tell you. Verizon is in the business of selling phones and services, so I understand it. Strangely(!), they don't support the phone hacking we all like so much! But Verizon hasn't done what you suspect.
Here's a great link to get more help than we can give you.

If you cannot find what you need as you follow the thread, ask your questions and I'm certain the phone fanatics will help you right away.
And be sure and post what you find so we can learn with you.
Off you go, then.

I have a bunch of .wma(s) that I would like to convert into ringtones using Audacity. However, I can't get this to work correctly? I've followed the instructions at the top of this post, but to still no avail.
Can anyone help me? using Audacity?
TIA

oh boy .. UPS just left my phone and I'm pulling it out of the box now. After reading the prior posts I have some small nausea sensations beginning to form around my life force.
oh well ... it is the call to adventure for sure.
Thanks for being here I'd be a cell phone prisoner without you all.

Ok, first of all you need a program called QPST, I heard about it in HowardForums. I don't want to write the link here 'cause I don't want VZ to get on their collective as**s, a little research and you'll get it too.
Once you install that program, connect your VX8300 to the usb cable (I bought mine from Verizon with the Music Essential CD for $19.99) and launch the QPST configuration, click on the tab PORTS and click on Add Port, this is the tricky part as you need to know to which port your phone is connected to. I found an easy way, right click on the MY COMPUTER icon, chose Properties, then the Hardware Tab and Device Manager. Click on ports and see to which one your phone is connected. Mine is 7, but could be 4 or other.
Back to QPST, type COM7 (or whatever) on both slots. Add the port and you should now see your phone and phone number.
Now launch QPST browser and find your ringtones subdirectory, it's located here:
brew/16452/lk/mr
just drag and drop your mp3 of about 300 KB and voilà! You're going to get an error message on your phone, it will say it that it needs service. Just ignore it. Turn off your VX8300 and turn it back on. The message is gone. Go to the Get Tunes and Tones menu and then My Ringtones and your mp3 is there ready to be assigned.
Now I finally have Kotetsu Jeeg and the Stargate SG1 Theme playing when I get calls
One last note, the VX8300 seems to like a bitrate of 22050 or lower, try avoiding MP3 encoded with 44100 bitrate.

Hi bulump
Audacity doesn't recognize the WMA format. You can find a lot of programs to do the job, which is converting the file from WMA to MP3. A small program that I like a lot is dBpowerAMP Music Converter. You can find it at download.com or tucows.com
If you like it don't forget to pay the small registration fee, it's really worth it ($14). Another program set I strongly recommend is Magix Audio Cleaning Lab, I've been using it for over a year for a lot of tasks, including digitizing all my old vinyl discs, and it was well worth the $39.99 I paid.
Hope this helps.[/b]

Hurray for ridewyoming!
Wish I could find a program for turning mp3 into wma. I'm a Mac man and we don't do too well with wma. I've got a gig microSD card and can fill it up with mp3s, but I cannot make playlists. Rats.
Suggestions anybody?

By the way, here's some more help for the wma skilled among us.
How to make WMA playlists.
Go to: GET IT NOW, & then: GET TUNES & TONES[1], then: MANAGE MUSIC[7], then PLAYLISTS[5], then: CREATE[upper right soft key].
Simply name your playlist by typing in a name for it, press OK, then: use the ARROW UP to where SEARCH becomes highlighted, press OK, ARROW RIGHT & DOWN to SONGS (or to another area if you prefer) and scroll down to the song you want to add to your playlist and hit OK.
Then press OPTIONS[soft key], then ADD TO PLAYLIST[2], then for another song... ARROW UP to SEARCH and repeat from there. You can always back out one screen by hitting clear if you hit a wrong key.
Do tell us if it works for you, yes?
