I just recently acquired a microSD card for my 8300. I want to create my own ringtones and store them on the card. Is there a reason i need to send these to the phone instead of saving them directly on the card via the adapter/card reader? I have BitPim downloaded and ready for use, but not adverse to downloading another program if I can avoid useless and unnecessary text messaging charges.
Thanks!

I think most of the problems that people are having with the mp3 player once they have the capability of it is that you need to hold the play button down for a good 5 seconds.
With the new firmware you cant access the music options in the '0' menu, but the mp3 capability is already there.

I received V Cast music essentials as a gift and "synced" a couple songs to the phone as wma files. Can these be set as ringtones? I've seen the question asked before but couldn't find an answer. I appreciate the help!
Thanks.

I have the new lg8300 and my "music settings" are not "not available". And no where do I find anything that says mp3 or my_mp3s anywhere.
I have a 1gig miniSD card and draged some mp3 tunes to my_music. But nothing works for me .
Any help?
thanks,
Gary
Also , when I hold down the play button it comes up all red and says player error
music is not availible
How do I make it availabe ?
no cord just the mini SD

Thanks for all the helpful information over the months since I bought the phone. I'm interested in going a little lower tech now than video and audio and hope someone knows if and how this can be done.
Can I load a text file anywhere onto my microSD card and then view it from the phone, preferably without using online minutes? I'm thinking of loading a book for casual reading, so we'd be talking a .txt file of a few hundred k.
Bonus question: Could the .txt file be viewed while music is playing.

Gary,
You might be dealing with a couple problems.
One, I'm pretty sure that the 8300 ca nuse a gig card (my old e815 couldnt) but first you'll need to 'format' the card. With your micro sd card in the phone, goto :
settings, select memory #8, card memory #3, hit the right soft kep for options and click format.
Once that is done, you'll need to get some sort of adapter to transfer your audio files into the 'My Music' folder on your micro sd card.
But beware. you can only have short files names for the audio. Keep it short and you'll be happy!
that should be all well and good to make the play button function.
as I posted before, the new firmware won't allow you to get into this 'music setting' area, but there is no need.
just hold the play button down like you had previously done before and it should work.
You can also goto 'get it now', 'get tunes and tones' and there is a section for 'my music' where you can fiddle around with you audio.

thanks for your reply,
I formatted it like twice already , just incase.and put it in my pc's card reader and draged over mp3's , wma's, mpeg4s and wan's ?
The last one was 5 differant wma's named 1.wma. , 2.wma. etc...
now it shows "player error"not able to play 1.wma. etc .. same with all 5 in a row. but atleast the phone show their there. , it just won't play them.
I down loaded that verizon music thing from howards, and i ordered a $10 usb cable for the phone so maybe i could do it that way ..?

Richard,
There are plenty of posts regarding your topic... The easiest for me was sending a txt messege to cell phone with an attached mp3. It helps if you have free txt messeges.
But look back in this string, you'll find plenty.
