This is the way I get my music onto my memory card.

1. Format card in Phone, by going to Settings & Tools menu, option 8, Memory, Option 3, Card Memory, select options, with the right soft key, select 1, Format card, when that is done transfer the card to your card reader on your pc.

2. Open windows explorer, it should recognize your card reader as a drive. When you open that drive, it will show your card directory.

3. In windows explorer open the folder on your pc where your music files are located, right click on one of the music files and from that menu select "open with", select Windows Media Player, all your mp3 files will change to Windows Media files. No need to go through and convert them.

4. Then I just select the songs I want, if you hold down the control key while selecting songs, you can choose the ones you want. While they are highlighted, right click and drag to your card to the my_music folder, from that menu select "copy here", all your music will be copied to your card and the original music files will stay on your pc. I have copied 90 songs at once with no problem.

I have also used this same procedure to copy pictures and video.

I changed the settings on my phone to save to the memory card automatically. The steps to do this are: Go to settings & tools, option 8, Memory, option 1, save options, select from PIX, Flix or Sounds, Then select card memory, select OK.

I use MIDI files for my ringtones, I have found tons of free MIDI files online. I use Bitpim and data cable to transfer the MIDI files from my computer to my phone. You can copy them directly to the ringtones folder.

thanx for the answer. im waiting for a 1 gig card i won on ebay last night.
how do i know if i have version 1 or 3?

Go to Menu > Settings and Tools > 9. Phone Info > 2. SW Version

The first two lines show the version:
"SW Version
T83VZV03"
This is version 3. Version 1 will have a 1 on the end instead of the 3.
I bought my phone last September and it was version 1. Today, my local Verizon store loaded version 3. Since you already stated that the seven 0's and music settings mumbo jumbo said unavailable then you probably have version 3 already.
Make sure the store you go to for an upgrade has "technicians" working there. Mall kiosks and other sales locations like Circuit City and BJ's cannot flash the new software onto your phone. Also beware that it takes them about 20 minutes to do so.

Have at it.

yup. mine is ver 3 already. thanx for the help. icon_biggrin.gif

Ok, heres one for ya.

I have the VX 8300 with the new firmware that automatically allows MP3's to be dragged and dropped into the my music folder on the mini SD card and the music is working great!

This is a work phone and my corporation has disabled all mobile web and e-mail connectivity - no text messaging - no e-mail - no Pix Place, etc.

I have been able to download cool mp3 ringtones to "my sounds" but cannot set them as ringtones. Every bit of advice has been to "Send" them via e-mail to my phone number but what if sending them via e-mail is not an option? SOL?

Another question is what are my sounds used for? What can they be set as?

When I look in "Sounds Settings" it shows the ringtones I have downloaded. I use MIDI files for my ringtones.

When will version 4 come out? I only want it so it can recognize 4 gig SD cards. Will our LG 8300's ever be able to read 4 gigs with new updates? Can version 3 read 2 gigs? with no probs?
