Okay, so I tried this and I get the message: NOT AVAILABLE! Must I purchase an activation of some sorts?
Same here. Is there a hack to make this available?

I don't want to buy a card if it's not going to work to begin with.

What are my options?

I would just like to say thanks for helping me out on how to get ring tones. I've had a lot of problems trying to find exactly what to do, I even call Verizon but they said they that there were ways to get them but they could not tell me how. However, this way worked great. Thanks again. icon_biggrin.gif

I recently found out that verizon has blocked attachments sent via email which is how I've been getting ringtones until now. What I did was save them to my micro sd card in my sounds with a .mid extension. Then, from my phone, I send the "sound" to myself and it comes through just fine. I use audacity and itunes to chop up my music but it does have to be under 350kb to work.

I've been through 20 some odd pages of the forum - I'm very grateful for the posts I've read, but no one has posted any information for Mac users trying to get their contacts onto their LG VX8300. The OS on my computer is Tiger 10.4.9.

All the solutions I've found on other sites are for Windows users as well as data cables for Windows users.

Verizon Wireless has a Backup Assistant but my Blackberry 7250 from 2 years ago doesn't have GET IT Now, and hence I can't transfer my contacts from my BB to my new phone. And while I could enter them by hand ONCE i have a phone with a PIN set up, if I do so with my LG VX8300 (when it arrives), my BB will be disabled.

Any suggestions I'd be grateful for. I have my contacts in Entourage, but can easily export them to Excel or to text or to Address Book. I also have them on-line at .mac.

Also, has anyone used VEMAIL on the VX8300 and what has your experience been? Being a current (and soon to be former BB user), I'd like to feel I can see and respond to emails from my POP account on my phone.

I noted there are a few of us who use macs - having read through 49 pages of this forum, I have an idea on how to get ringtones and music playing on my LG VX8300 (when it comes) but NOT on how to get my CONTACTS onto the phone (from Entourage - or any other mac Address Book, .mac or whatever). I posted a query that is on page 49 of the forum. In case you don't get to it, I'm hoping this reply will get your attention.

Thanks for the info in the forum - just a tad more information on my probloem and I'll be thrilled. icon_question.gif PocketMac doesn't have anything for the LG VX8300 (and anyway, the product had some problems in syncing my BB and Entourage - so I'm moving to a different phone entirely).

Okay all. After weeks of fighting Verizon and gathering information, I have some information to pass along to everyone that has the VX8300.

1. The bluetooth has connection issues with Firmware VERSION 1. It will disconnect on it's own, all the time. Upgrading to VERSION 3, helped, but it still disconnects on certain incoming calls, even if I was just on another call and hung up and it rang again within seconds. The Verizon tech guy refuses to admit any problems or do anything about it. I guess I have to live with it.

2. IF YOU UPGRADE TO THE FIRMWARE VERSION 3, YOU'RE MP3 PLAYER WILL NOT WORK. The graphic EQ will not work, the MP3 folder will be erased and you will no longer be able to use the media player to play. Instead, VERSION 3 uses .WMA files for playing. Just format the card IN THE PHONE and place any WMA music files in the "MY_MUSIC" folder. You can then use the front buttons and the My Music Player under the "GET IT NOW, GET TUNES AND TONES" menu. Again, the VERIZON tech guy denied that it ever played MP3's and said it must be in my head. Well, not exactly, but he did deny it would play MP3's. I asked him to open a new one without version 3 and he refused. Anyway, it will play WMA files fine.

3. IF YOU GET THE "NOT AVAILABLE" ERROR WHEN TRYING TO ENABLE THE MP3 PLAYER OR NO MP3 FOLDER WAS CREATED WHEN YOU TRY TO FORMAT THE CARD, CHECK YOUR FIRMWARE VERSION. MOST LIKELY YOU HAVE VERSION 3.

Hope this helps and if anyone knows differently, please let me know.

I did not read through the whole thread so if somebody already clued you in I apologize.

What you said is not true at all. MP3's work fine with the version 3 firmware.

I was having all of the same troubles you are/were having until I renamed the .mp3 files to smaller names such as 123.mp3 and it now works fine and plays .mp3's in great quality.

What you do is this:

1.) Put in your micro sd chip and format it. You can do this one of two ways. The first method is powering off your phone and putting in the micro sd chip then powering the phone on. This will format your chip. Or you can stick it in while the phone is on and go to: Menu > Settings & Tools > Memory > Card Memory > Options (right hand soft key) > Format Card.

2.) Take your micro SD chip out of your cell phone and plug it into your adapter, card reader, and finally into your USB slot on your computer.

3.) Rename your mp3's to small file sizes such as: 123.mp3 111.mp3 112.mp3 etc etc etc.

4.) Copy and paste them into the my_music directory on your micro sd chip.

5.) Insert the micro SD chip back into your cellphone.

5.) Hold the play button down on the front of your phone for 5 seconds. Or go to Menu > Get it Now > Get Tunes & Tones > My Music > Songs.

Voilla!

It seems the problem was being caused by the large mp3 filenames.

Well. in my LG VX8300 (Verizon) there is no Option 5 (play key). in my phone option 5 is "reset keys" and there is no option Play MP3 either.
Has Verizon been limiting access to the phone capabilities?

So when i hit menu, then press 0, then enter the 0's, and then try to click on 11 it just says NOT AVAILABLE. Whats the deal?

Dear Rever —

What a godsend you are with these tips and explanations for my new LG VX8300 purchased this afternoon! I bought a memory card (gigantic memory) and will use my BlueTooth earbud with it. At the Verizon store he was not able to pair my BlueTooth to the cell phone without the BlueTooth booklet so I will have to figure out how to do it. (This is a Nokia BlueTooth and I was using it with my Nokia 6256i.)

Anyhow, I hope that you continue to write about this.

I have an iMac and am figuring that whatever software programs they have for the VX8300 is for the PC/Windows and not my Apple baby.

I do not intend to play music, but I do want to take pix and probably some video, too. That's why I bought the big memory card.

I have bookmarked this page so I can return and learn more. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with others.

Lorna

I have a question I have not seen in any thread. I just got an LG 8300. One thing I do not like is seeing the red VCast ad from Verizon when I power it on and off. I liked the old LGs that let you choose different pix and sounds. Is there a way to change the display and sound when powering on and off? or at least to turn off the VCast ad?
