I'm having the same problem also. I follow the instructions, but when I select #11 it says NOT AVAILABLE. I just got my phone today. Have they done something so these instructions no longer work?

If you have firmware version 3 (current 7/2007) you do not need to activate the player.
HOWEVER:::::: you must insert a microsd card and go through the tools to format it. At least that is the only way I got mine to work. After loading mp3 files your player will work. Hold down the front >|| button until the screen changes. The first time I did it I got a device error momentarily and then it worked just fine.

1. The bluetooth has connection issues with Firmware VERSION 1. It will disconnect on it's own, all the time. Upgrading to VERSION 3, helped, but it still disconnects on certain incoming calls, even if I was just on another call and hung up and it rang again within seconds. The Verizon tech guy refuses to admit any problems or do anything about it. I guess I have to live with it.
2. IF YOU UPGRADE TO THE FIRMWARE VERSION 3, YOU'RE MP3 PLAYER WILL NOT WORK. The graphic EQ will not work, the MP3 folder will be erased and you will no longer be able to use the media player to play. Instead, VERSION 3 uses .WMA files for playing. Just format the card IN THE PHONE and place any WMA music files in the "MY_MUSIC" folder. You can then use the front buttons and the My Music Player under the "GET IT NOW, GET TUNES AND TONES" menu. Again, the VERIZON tech guy denied that it ever played MP3's and said it must be in my head. Well, not exactly, but he did deny it would play MP3's. I asked him to open a new one without version 3 and he refused. Anyway, it will play WMA files fine.
3. IF YOU GET THE "NOT AVAILABLE" ERROR WHEN TRYING TO ENABLE THE MP3 PLAYER OR NO MP3 FOLDER WAS CREATED WHEN YOU TRY TO FORMAT THE CARD, CHECK YOUR FIRMWARE VERSION. MOST LIKELY YOU HAVE VERSION 3.
Hope this helps and if anyone knows differently, please let me know. |
I did not read through the whole thread so if somebody already clued you in I apologize.
What you said is not true at all. MP3's work fine with the version 3 firmware.
I was having all of the same troubles you are/were having until I renamed the .mp3 files to smaller names such as 123.mp3 and it now works fine and plays .mp3's in great quality.
What you do is this:
1.) Put in your micro sd chip and format it. You can do this one of two ways. The first method is powering off your phone and putting in the micro sd chip then powering the phone on. This will format your chip. Or you can stick it in while the phone is on and go to: Menu > Settings & Tools > Memory > Card Memory > Options (right hand soft key) > Format Card.
2.) Take your micro SD chip out of your cell phone and plug it into your adapter, card reader, and finally into your USB slot on your computer.
3.) Rename your mp3's to small file sizes such as: 123.mp3 111.mp3 112.mp3 etc etc etc.
4.) Copy and paste them into the my_music directory on your micro sd chip.
5.) Insert the micro SD chip back into your cellphone.
5.) Hold the play button down on the front of your phone for 5 seconds. Or go to Menu > Get it Now > Get Tunes & Tones > My Music > Songs.
Voilla!
It seems the problem was being caused by the large mp3 filenames. |
I formatted the card in the phone and renamed the mp3's to smaller file sizes. When I go to copy and paste I get an error message: Cannot copy(renamed) mp3. The disk is write- protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disc. Any suggestions ?

Ok, I've looked through every page of this thread and still haven't found the answer to my question. Is there any way to search for a phone number in my contacts? I used to be able to do it with my 6100 but I haven't figured out how with the 8300

Cant search for phone numbers, only names and go through them individually by pressing the right arrow key.

I have had my 8300 for about a week now, and your guide is fantastic. I just purchased a 1 gig stick for it, plus the USB cable + software.
When following your guide, the one where you press (OK) then zero 7 times, I then go to menu choice 11, but when I press OK, it says NOT AVAILABLE.
Is there a way to bypass this, or am I stuck without this option?
A+++ guide btw. Many thanks.
*** edit *** I was too drunk to notice that there is 50 + pages to this thread. My apologies. I am going to go read through all of them when I sober up. Maybe. The answer could very well be there.

Alrighty then put your clipped songs(ringtones) onto microsd card under file called ringers. If you don't have ringer file make one. next put card into phone. using bitpim(free) click get data then tell pc to get ringers.next once you have done that click send data and add ringers.once you have done that check your ringtones on the phone they will be there.
