Hi, recently I have been having some problems with signal in my area. A couple years ago, they put in a tower about a mile from my house so, obviously, I get full reception. (It never even goes down one bar from full--it's always at maximum) Well, lately, my phone will show only one bar and it will never make a call. It will ALWAYS fail. This happens a lot now, but a few hours later, it will go back up to maximum reception. I always power cycle my phone when this happens--just to reregister my SIM, but that never works. It still goes right back to 0-1 bars. So, what's wrong? I make a lot of long distance calls from my home, and I ALWAYS use my cell phone for them, and when this happens, it's not possible! Thank you so much!

could be the phone... could be the network...if you have the same issue *everywhere* it would be the phone... if you got in the car and drove say 10 miles and it went back to normal (phone is now on a different tower) it would be a network issue

what does it say on the phone?...

CINGULAR or CINGULAR WIRELESS or ATT WIRELESS?

When I go to work (in a different CITY), my phone has full reception from another tower. So, it's not a phone issue. Whenever I am at home, it ALWAYS says "Cingular". When it's 5 bars or no bars, it's always "Cingular". Actually, I travel a lot and I've never seen it say "Cingular Wireless" or "ATTWS" on there. I also have gone to Network Setup on my phone to see any other networks, but there isn't a Network Selection.

its starting to sound like its the phone....if your phone is less than a year old its covered by warranty as long as there is no water damage and no physical damage

yeah if they are working on the tower it shouldn't take very long.. anyone know if there is a fallout if you are really close to a tower I heard that this could happen if you are extremly close to a tower like under it. ?? but he woulda had the problem originally. I would have the phone checked out also.

I don't think it's my phone, because when my friend (who has Cingular) came to my house, his phone did the exact same thing. He has an L7. What's wrong with everything?

P.S. Why is it that my phone NEVER says "Cingular Wireless"?

Thanks!

that changes the spice in the curry...

try a manual network search... if you see more than 1 cingular on the screen select the second one...if the phone works fine what is happening in your area is called network integration (most likely)

that is the final stage in the combination of the formwer att and the former cingular networks into one... the tower codes are being changed and your phone may not know how to deal with it yet...have you ever seen USA410 on the screen? if so your market is going thru or has gone thru integration...

the answer to your other question is sort of explained in the preceeding paragraph

if you phone reads CINGULAR WIRELESS you are on an un-integrated tower... the same for ATT WIRELESS... if your phone reads CINGULAR it is integrated ... but may be just renamed (old network code the new alfa tag)

I can't do a manual network search from my phone (as far as I know), because when I go to "Network Setup" on my phone, the only option is to change the band. There is no manual selection option. I also don't know what USA410 is. I guess it is a cell market. Is there a map of all of these cell markets that I could see?

In another thread Samsung posted this on Thu Jun 16, 2005 1:50 pm:

If you phone is displaying cingular as the network that you are using you can always do a manual network selection. Menu>Setup>Network>Network Setup>Type>manual ....

USA410 is an Alpha tag used for towers that are apart of Cingular. It is used nation wide. If I understand correctly, this network is what has been referred to by some as the "Gold" network (what eventually will be the combined former "blue" and "orange" networks.

I don't know how often you travel, but when I do, depending on where I go, I have noticed that many different "USA###" Alpha Tags show up on the phone. Just a network ID.

They just finished network integration here in Austin from my understanding, and it certainly did cause problems with phones while they worked on it.

Now it is just fine, and in most places reception is much better.
With any luck this is all that is happening in your area.

Hope this helps. icon_smile.gif
