hey all, sorry if this has been posted before but i just signed up after looking for ages on how to do this.
I recently bought a Sony GRT716s laptop and have moved into my uni accomodation, which doesnt have a phone line. I'd like to be able to check my pop3 email on my laptop using the phone, so could somebody please tell me what software/hardware i need?
From what i have found, i think i can use the USB DCU-11 cable, but i emailed the company and they told me that wouldnt let me use the internet on my laptop hopefully someone here can clear it all up for me, thanks.

Subscribe to the GPRS service provided by your operator. You can then connect the T310 to the laptop using the RS232 or USB cable. Happy surfing

so the DCU-11 USB cable will work right? or would it be better to buy an IRDA dongle for my laptop?

Infrared is mainly used for transferring images to and from the cell. However for net surfing via the cellphone, it is recommended that you use the usb or rs232 data cable.

The problem is that (at least the T3xx) you can only use the built-in modem with IrDA.

Do you mean to say that it is not possible to use a data cable with the T310 for surfing on the PC using the GPRS connection

This is probably too late for you but for others:
I can only get the Sony T310 to work via the Irda port on my XP laptop for GPRS using updated drivers from the sony website. Infact the
I haven't yet got the USB datacable to detect the mobile but I will I will shortly try to install in my desktop. Also be aware that mobile phone Infrared drivers overwrite the original XP Irda drivers and when you change your mobile you may find the Irda drivers are not compatible so make a copy of the old ones first.
If anyone knows how to get the modem working via USB I need to know quickly as I have clients waiting. Rgds
