Instead of buying a digital camera and a new phone, I've found the K800 and K790a to fulfill two of my needs. The problem is I don't know which service providers work with these phones. I'm in the US (Indiana) and I feel like this is probably an easy question to answer, but after much forum searching and googling, I haven't found anything that explains to me exactly what it takes for a phone and network to be compatible. My current provider is cingular and neither of those phones are listed anywhere on their website.
Any help as to what providers might support this phone or what I would need to look for in order to determine the compatibility would be much appreciated.
thanks in advance

If the phone is carrier unlocked, you can use the phone on any GSM network.

I just bought an unlocked phone and it does not see my network. I use Cingular which uses GSM and they say they use all four networks - 850/900/1800/1900. However, I'm still unable to use. Any thoughts?

cingular's network is typically uses the 850 and 1900 mhz band in the states, and therefore certian tri-band phones (such as k800 or V3x) support 900 1800 and 1900 mhz. In order for the phone to work on cingular it must be able to use the 850 mhz band, or be a US tri-band (850 1800 1900 such as k790a). I went throught this experience with a moto V3x tri band (europe). it would receive signal in cingular's very limited 1900 area, but everywhere else call would be immediately dropped or it would be unable to function. Another note, the coverage map of 850 and 1900 bands on cingular's website is NOT accurate. The map includes 1900 towers owned by T-Mobile and you will not be allowed to use!

if you are trying to get a k800i or a k790a you wouldn't be able to use it on cingular's network because cingular uses both 850mhz and 1900 mhz bands. the k800 and k790 do not support the 850mhz band, so your out of luck. Unless you plan on switching to t mobile you can get anyone them, but i prefer the k800 because it has 3G technology which t-mobile in 2007 will start using. Good luck on your decision i am proud of my k800

Verizon uses cdma so K790a and K800 - being GSM phones - will not work on Verizon. K790a can be used on Cingular or T-mobile since it has 850 and 1900 bands. The K800 will work for both Cingular and T-mobile as well but coverage might be a little lacking on Cingular since the majority of their coverage is in the 850 range whereas T-mobile's network is setup with 1900 in mind.
You can check on
http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_us.shtml
for network coverage of different frequencies by specific carriers in different areas of the US.
Cingular 3G is on the 850/1900 frequencies, but no phones support that kind of 3G. Hopefully, T-mobile's 3G will resemble the UMTS 2100 that Asian countries use (K800 also has UMTS).
