It's been on the market for less than a month, and problems are already starting to pop up. Don't get me wrong, the Sidekick 3 from T-Mobile is a worthy successor to the last generation IM'er, and the feature set will keep you interested and connected, but there's one strange quirk. It turns out that the magnet housed in the Sidekick 3 is pretty strong. So strong, in fact, that it "obliterates the stored data" on credit cards.
Rumblings on the internet at this point, but "a couple guys" tested out the strength of the Sidekick 3's magnet (which allows it to the that "cool flipping thing") and found that it was strong enough to hold up a regular table knife or fork. That's pretty powerful.
A nice thick wallet might be able to protect you from the potential disaster of having a de-magnetized card with no other way to pay for dinner, but in the meantime, I think it best you avoid putting your SK3 and credit cards too close together.

I worked at a restraunt american express requires a physical copy of a card with a demagnatized strip so guess what we would hand the card back to them and tell them to give us another card. and tell them to contact american express since no one knew how to work the thing that makes the carbon copies of the credit card if we had one. (this restraunt was mean they make us pay for unpaid credit cards orders. amex was silly a lot of waiters would just hand the cards back.) (they also charged higher fees which the restraunt passed on to the waiters.. )

Strong enough to hold up a regular table knife or fork? Doesnt seem likely. I wouldnt believe that. Knifes and forks are pretty heavy. I really doubt that the magnet inside the SK3 would be able to hold up cutlery.

I watched a mythbusters a while back where they tested a theory on this...
they went thru a whole series of things to erase that strip...
they tried coils ...rubbing 2 cards together ... the dreaded strip to strip in a wallet...even an industrial degausser ( a tape eraser ,it worked but had to be turned up)
and their concensus was it is very difficult to erase a magenetic strip on a card
