Shopping for new PDA phone. Interested in Nokia E61. Cingular is current service provider. If I purchase this phone, will it work with Cingular?

the E61 is quadband GSM, so it will work on cingular's network, but not on the UMTS network.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, your reply went right over my (very novice) head.
When I visited the Cingular store after posting this question, the rep told me one of the four bands on this phone works on their network here in the States. He said that band does not work on the Cingular network in Florida. Does that mean the Florida network is UMTS? In which case, he would be correct. Or does it mean I need to find a Cingular rep who knows more about this phone's capabilities?

Well, he was right in a way...
GSM 900/1800 is not used here.
UMTS 1900 is used here in the US, not 2100.

I really can't imagine why the device wouldn't work in Florida.

OK, this is getting more interesting and causes me to learn more (I like that!). I'll give Cingular a call and do more research.
Thanks everyone for the assistance.

basically, as long as the device is unlocked and can operate on the 850/1900 bands, you're good to go.
