Has anyone figured out a way to override the default speed dial setting of the "1" key? I've used that key for my home number for years, and hate the fact that this phone has it preset to dial Verizon's voice mail.

this is how i would do it on my 8100...I'm assuming they're not too different:
message-settings-edit voicemail#...
there you can change that number to whatever you want.
hope this helps

I had come up with that solution...the problem is, it then doesn't allow me direct access to my voice mail when a message comes in...I'd be calling home. I just want to change the number assigned to the "1" key while keeping *86 for voicemail access.
As far as the age of my old phone, it was two years old...a Samsung, although I don't recall the model. It was a basic phone, but allowed me to set anything I wanted to any key. Except 9, which was designated to 911. Made for some interesting 'splaining when I was in Memphis, forgot what I had assigned to "9", and pressed it to see what was there.

I'm not sure i get it...
Why cant you just program *86 to another key?......that's what you want right? #1 for calling home and some other key for your voice mail....
Also...another tip is dont dial *86 when you wnat to check your voice mail...it uses your minutes. Just call your own number and then it's considered free mobile to mobile minutes...
so whatever key u use for voicemail...even if you leave it at speed dial #1...change the number it dials from *86 to (555)555-5555<-----your number

i think i get it.... when it notifies you that you have a voice mail you can automatically call voice mail from the message screen...right?
I guess i could see how that would be screwed up and it would call your new assigned speed dial 1....
If you really want 1 to be your home it seems like a sacrifice you have to make.
i dont think there's a way for the phone to know voice mail has been moved...

talked to verizon.... they made a decision to program#1 for voicemail in firmware...... their excuse for doing so was that customers had in the past changed it and forgot how to get into voicemail after that........ duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
i suggested that they initially set it for 911 or set '0' for 911 and '9' for VM............. and not set any keys in firmware......

@cableguynoe
Your instructions did help point me, but I got a little stuck on the tree.
The way to do it is:
menu -> messaging -> settings -> All Msg -> Voicemail #
Hope this helps for the next person trying to find this !@$%! thing...
