I am trying to figure out what my options are when it comes to replacing a Cingular phone. I was originally an ATT customer and had a Nokia 3120, my husband needed a new phone so we changed over to a Cingular plan and received two new phones. Even though we were getting the same exact phones from Cingular, we could not use the Nokia's we received from ATT. Other than wanting to 'lock' us into a contract, I didn't understand why the ATT phone could not be used on Cingular - is there really a difference even though they were the same exact models?
With that said, just tonight my husband damaged his phone, and now I am wondering if I can take the SIM card from the Cingular phone and use it in the original Nokia 3120 phones we received from ATT?
Based on what I found on the web, I believe I would need to have the Cingular SIM card unlocked in order to work in the ATT phone. I am wondering - is unlocking the card that simple - you pay someone for a code and it works? What should I watch out for? Other than the nominal fee, what else can it cost me - his current phone already doesn't work.
My goal is to get a working phone without extending our current contract terms or spending a ton of money on a new phone.
Thanks for any advice/suggestions you can provide!

techically speaking you unlock the phone so you can use any sim card in it
call ATT customer care (8662934634)and request the unlock code...as long as your account is in good standing the request will be fufilled
