Hey, I have a similar problem with my newly acquired RAZR. It was originally for T-mobile. I've been looking around, and the best I've seen is some do-it-yourself unlocking tricks, all of which seem very complicated. I called Cingular a week ago to get the subsidy passcode but they still haven't sent it to me. Should I keep trying for the subsidy or try to unlock it? Any advice at all would be very much appreciated.

I tried to get the subsidy pass code but I got nowhere. I purchased a remote unlock for 25.99 from GSMLOCKER.com. You prepay and they send you a link and software to download (your phone has to have USB cable). It is god for one log in. This for me has been easier than dealing with the service carrier although I am having trouble downloading the drivers because they don't have a signature and Windows XP wont allow them to install properly, but they are going to help. Hopefully my phone will be unlocked today.

HI everybody, i had bought a Motorola V551 last year when i was studying in the Usa, the Cingular employee told me i would have been able to make it work even in italy changing the sim card, now i am back in Italy and when i try to make it work with the italian operator "WIND" it says: insert subsidy code...what should i do?
Thank you very much for your help, i really appreciate.

to obtain the unlock code you have to contact cingular...or go to a pay site to unlock...

I have been on Cingular website but they dont even cite the unlock service, so am i supposed to just call then in the customer service?
I am not very experienced with phones so my questions sound really stupid...Thank you very much anyway.

Hi all

Well I tried the unlock service and it did not work. We actually tried it on 2 phones. My advice....don't buy a cingular phone. I have tried contacting cingular the unlock companies etc. and nothing has helped. I am now going to try and sell my 2 phones and get the money back

That is only for cingular customers. In my experience if you are not a customer or are from Canada they will not help you. They may say they will but they don't get back to you - which is too bad. I have 2 brand new phones that I can't use.
