Hi,
I am from Canada and recently purchased a Motorola ROKR E1 phone which is locked to Cingular and I want to unlock it and use it with Rogers. Since rogers and cingular are both ATT I would assume this is not a problem but I cannot find any information. Anyone have any ideas?

rogers won't help you at all. you can email/call cingular to see if you can get the unlock code. or else google it. or post it in the moto forum, someone may beable to help you out.
or check out www.bongowireless.com

If you purchased it from cingular and paid full price for it or have a account in good standing with cingular you can call the customer service at 18003310500 or straight into tech support at 18778343318 and ask for the subsidy unlock code. We will have to put in a form and normally takes about a week to 10 days to get this back to you. Just keep in mind that if you do not have an account you must fax the receipt to the rep you are talking to.

I bought both of the phones off of E-Bay not realizing that they were locked to cingular. We do not have cingular here in canada. can I still contact them. I have a receipt from e-bay . . . ..

that wont work... you'll need to use an unlocking service (pay for it yourself)

Im not sure why ppl are saying this is not possible- Im a tier II 2/3g tech at Cingular, and basically, if I had the number, I'd go into Snooper, goto Smarttrust functions (I think... its one of the tabs) and perform an "Unlock SIM" and *bingobango*- you can take your phone to any store and, tho they dont like it, they can and are supposed to allow you to use any unlocked phone..
So yeah- for me its 5 mouse-clicks.. Im not sure why ppl are saying it cant be done...
Your options are-
1) Pay the $ for an unlocking service ( which is kinda shady... dunno bout them...)
2) Ask someone you know works at Cingular and has at least tier II on Snooper to unlock you.
