Hey,
I like my new razr but the one thing that peeves me is that when I shut the phone, about 5-10 seconds later the outer screen turns completely black. With my old phone, and lots of others, the screen stayed on, but the backlight turns off. This was perfectly fine as I could still see it in light conditions, and it saves batteries. This was particularly used to see the time.

Now with the razr I have to open it and then close it just to see the time.

Is there any way to fix it not completely turning black. It's not just when the phone is closed either, when the phone is open, after 15-20 seconds that goes completely black too. So i have to press a button to get it back to light. Why can't it just turn the backlight off so i could at least see it a little bit? Other phones have this feature as default.. is there anyway I can do this with the razr?

Try using a lighter coloured wallpaper for when the phone is closed.

Also try this seem
0032_0001 offset 7C - bit 2: Show signal, time, battery status when display goes to blank (1 on, 0 off) (Settings > Initial Setup > Display Timeout must be 1 or 2 minutes)

You can increase the time also this seems edits will change the times you can choose from:
SEEM 0032_0001
offset 75 - bit 5: Settings > Initial Setup > Display Timeout > 5 and 10 minutes (0 on, 1 off)

and for when it is open:
SEEM 0032_0001
offset 0A - bit 7: Settings > Initial Setup > Backlight > Continuous option (1 on, 0 off)

If I get what you're saying...When it's closed, it just shows the clock for me, really dark, so I press the smart key, and it lights up...Might not be what you want though.
