For some reason, I am just not able to figure this out. I am using a powerbook g4, and followed the directions on page 9 very closely. I used the cable from the MIK, and paired my phone & laptop without a problem. I followed all the steps shown. The only thing that looks different is when I come to the page where it detects the ports in BitPim (phone wizard) the ports are listed as

Modem ( / d ev /cu . modem )
Modem ( / de v /c u. usbmodem3B11 )
USB Device - Vendor Electroncs, Product VX Series (Direct USB connection), (Intel .......

Also, when I look at the Preferences - Devices under Bluetooth, it says that my phone is configured and paired, but not connected. Any clue what I'm doing wrong??

I have a PB G4 and use Bluetooth

try this......

1. disconnect that usb cable ( you don't need it )
2. have your files already loaded into bitpim but have bitpim closed for now
3. PBG4 > bluetooth prefs>bluetooth on>discoverable on>sharing tab>file trsfr on (start)> file trsfr (check both)> file exchange (check both)> require pairing> devices tab-make sure your phone is there or set up new>

turn on chocolate bluetooth>you can add new device>select discovery mode>incoming security (always ask)

4. open bitpim application> open phone wizard>select the com port>you must PASS( if not try another COM port)> Finish > OK

5. select the tab for the files you want to send then send away

6. computer and phone will shake hands and either you enter a code or you will be prompted to enter a code

7. Transfer will take a little while

8. Voila' S{filesdone hehe

note there are other pages you may want to check on the chocoloate to activate bluetooth ports etc.

okay okay Before coming to this forum i spent hours trying and searching how to edit ringtones for da chocolate...

Before make sure you sign up to the Verizon Wireless Pics place
site its free.

All you need is WAVEPAD
OPen the MP3 File
Select the part of the song you want as a ringtone
highlight and copy
click on new gives you option for stereo or mono ( I used Stereo)
Paste your selection on the new pad
click save as
whatever name ---it default save wave file
then press save
It will pop up a window with three options

Option 1
gives you selection radio, telephone, and cd quality just use the top one
selected...(UNTITLED)

OPtion2
Format select MPEG Layer 3

Option3
then select the First 56k bit/ 24,000 hertz, stereo 6kb/sec

Then press OK

Whalla
get on the internet open email compose email to
10DIGITYOURNUMBER@vzwpic

there you go open message on your phone options and save..

this is just for ringtones....
now if you wanna load music to your phone to use the mp3 function you can but you will need the Music Essential Kit 29.99

Well, I just loaded-up my Choco with self-made ring tones.
For those of you who have never used an audio editing program, here's how I did it: For audio editing, I usually use Adobe Audition and Sound Forge, but for this example, I used WavePad.
Start by ripping your music with whatever you normally use, or use WavePad. Save it as a *.wav file. Once the file is opened, click and drag through the section of the waveform that you will want as a ringtone. Be sure to select more than you'll need, and here's why: Go into "edit" and select "copy to new". Now you have a section to work with, while still keeping your original. Now it's time to trim. I usually do a fast fade-in at the beginning of the file, and a slower fade-out at the end.
Also, I like to take a selection and "loop" it for my 20-30 seconds. To do that, Click and drag select the area you want to loop... you can move the "ends" in or out while the file plays to hear how precise the loop is. Always start the selection before the downbeat (the 1.. the kick drum beat, not the snare!). Select a measure or two or four. You'll hear if it's right. When it sounds right, click the trim icon. That will delete everything except your selection. Now, select the full wavefile and copy it. Push the "go to end" control button and then "paste" a copy. It will copy to the end of your existing file. Repeat the "go to end"/paste until it's the length you want (I go for 20-30 seconds).

Before I save, I like to make sure the file is maxed. First, I like to roll-off the bass using the EQ or the Highpass filter, then apply a bit of compression. Use WavePad's "Dynamic Range Compressor" in the Effects dropdown. A ratio of 2:1 should work for most audio, but just play with it, using the preview. If it still sounds good, and the waveform looks like it "smoothed-out", then it should be good. After this, I apply the "normalize" effect. NEVER set it to 100!! Use 90-98. This method is much better than applying the "amplify" effect. This get's the file "loud" without clipping (going above digital zero, and distorting.... not in a good way). Always apply effects to the *.wav file. Applying to an MP3 can have bad results.
To save the file, I first save a *.wav....just for back-up. Then I save it as an mp3, at 80-96 kbps. This saves a 25-30 second file down to 230-300k.
Obviously I'm writing this for those that don't normally do audio editting, but really, It's pretty easy, and it's just a friggn' ringtone. All music is different, so your results will vary.

I used BitPim 0.9.10 to get the files to my phone. It worked great for me. I didn't read any help files or anything...just installed it and ran it. One thing it did, and I really need to see why/how, was it did a file conversion on the MP3's. I tried a few of the bitrate options it suggested, but I forgot to note which of my files got the different settings. This tells me it may convert *.wav files, so You might want to try that. I will when I get some time. Oh well. I'll check it out and report back with what I find. I have not tried the Text Message Attachment to phone process yet.

Make sure you turn the phones "master Volume" up all the way (in the Sound Settings). The Chocolate speaker sucks badly! and needs all the help it can get.

I hope this was valuable info for those that have never used an audio editing program, and I hope I explained things in an easy-to-understand way.

I put all my first ringtones into a zip file for you all, but it seems I can't do URL's until I'm a trusted, worthy non-spamming forum user. icon_sad.gif If you want the URL for the files, e-mail me.

This is what I was going to say about the files I was going to give to you:

Most are looped. If you are familiar with 80's music, you'll recognize some of these riffs, and you'll see how effective the looping is for ringtones. I try to use sections of music that have a nice repeating motif , with very little bass content. The examples show this nicely, I think.
Thanks. Enjoy!

Here are the ringtones I mentioned below (or above). There are 15+ per zip file. There are no virus! These were created with a 128-192kbps source mp3. Using a *.wav file will give better results.

Seems to me that bitpim has been updated since page one of this post, b/c it has an option for the vx8500, but point being is i followed the directions posted there by chuck h except the fact that i needed to get wavepad so i could convert my music files from .wma to .mp3 every thing went smooth as silk, thanks to chuck H and to all of those who have helped out on this topic icon_biggrin.gif

Hi, I use the Canadian version of the chocolate TG800 (which is basically same as KG800).

When I'm in the options menu of the MP3 player, I do not have an option to set the mp3 as a ringtone like the manual says.

The only way I have been able to set an mp3 as a ringtone is by putting the mp3 in the 'ringtunes' folder when I'm transfering the file from PC to the phone.

Can someone please help me? icon_redface.gif

I have the same problem as you bro. anyone know how to do it with the Canadian version (Telus Mobility)?

Oh i really hope someone can help me with this!!

I have the Chocolate.. with the micro sd card.. and card reader.. i can transfer songs/tunes/sounds whatever.. to both my_music folder on the card.. and the my_sounds folder.

I can also text myself the song like said. But there is NO option to set it as a ringtone. someone please help? thanks:)
