As far as the emailing homemade ringtones to yourself, if you make a ringtone using Audacity or some other free sound editor, export it as an mp3. Change the MP3 export bit rate so that it's smaller, 96 worked for me with a 20 second sound clip. In Audacity, you go under preferences, and then File Formats to do this. Then rename it to .qcp. Your computer won't recognize this format, but just attach it to an email to your phone and when your phone gets it, save it as a ringtone. Look at other posts to see how to send it to your phone via email. This worked for me on my LG Chocolate VX8500. Good luck and I hope this helps!

I'm having problems emailing the mp3 ringtone to my phone. I've got the file ready its under 350kb. I attached it to the email and sent it to the phone. But when I get the message on the phone and open it, it's just a blank white screen and nothing plays. I tried to click save as ringtone and it said there was an error. Did I miss a step? Anyone know what I should do?

Try renaming the mp3 to .qcp on your computer before emailing it. I was having the same problem as you and that worked. Hope that helps!

none of the methods seem to work and i've tried them all. the closest i get is converting my mp3 to a .mid file and then emailing it to a yahoo account that i access via the phone. it's the only file that i can download without getting a message that says "unsupported content type ". only problem is, once i have the .mid file downloaded, there's no way to put it anywhere. i can't save it to a ringtone folder.

i'm using a mac, is that the issue? Have tried myxer, media convert and audacity all to no avail. what am i doing wrong?

any help is greatly appreciated.

nevermind?.i have the mp3 file.how do i rename it?

rename it on your computer before you send it. You may need to make it so that you can see the file extensions. Open "My Computer" then the Tools menu. Choose Folder Options. Click to the view tab and uncheck the box by hide file extensions for known file types.

For everyone else, I haven't seen any problems with file size yet. (unless it's huge, which it fails and keeps failing for like a week). I've never tried renaming it to qcp, so I can't tell you if that works or not, but I know that renaming it to .mid does work and it shows up really high quality.

So, not sure how reliable or what the limitations are but I just put a song I had edited down for a ringtone into the MySounds Folder on my mini SD card.
Opened My Sounds on my phone. Found the "Sound" and sent it to myself. When I got the txt I could save it as a ringtone just like if I had emailed it to myself. FYI icon_cool.gif

BTW I have the new Chocolate 8550 or w/e

Hi!
I tried emailing my phone with a ringtone and the MMS message never came.
I also tried sending it through funformobile and ToneThis and I didn't get any of the MMS messages.

Please Help!

PS-I'm sorry if this has already been answered but I couldn't read all 36 pages in this topic.

Ok, I've done all the preceding directions. I finally got to where I can send the .mp3s or .qcp's but now when I receive them on my LG chocolate it just shows up. It doesn't play the song, i can't use the soft keys to save it as a ringtone or anything. What am I missing? If I can see the attachment listed why doesn't it play? I've tried tons of different sizes so that's not the problem. I've also tried forwarding it so it would be in my outbox then seeing if I could do it there.nope.

any ideas?

Hey, I recently started having this problem, too. I found that if the email is not plain text, Verizon seems to be blocking them. So, make sure that your email is in plain text format before sending.

Try renaming it to .mid, like it says in my previous posts (I think it's on page 35). It hasn't failed me yet.
