I found that has free ringtones and you don't have to sign up for anything.
mytinyphone.com
I downloaded a bunch and then emailed them to my phone. They sound great!

Spunko, I need your help. I used audacity to get the MP3 file for the ringtone I wanted and used by Yahoo account to send the e-mail to xxxx@vzwpix.com. However, my phone has a message that came through said that to go www.vzwpix.com for more information. I tried numerous times and there is no attachment and just keep on telling me to go to www.vzwpix.com. Is there another procedure I need to do? Thanks!!

Ok so I understand all the deal with audacity and bitpim as I have used both before, but I just activated my VX8500 (calling it "chocolate" feels weird...hehe) tonight and the user manual really confused me about transferring mp3s to the phone. So I have two moderately related questions:
1. Is it actually true that you can't just format a microSD card on the phone, connect it to a card reader, load whatever files you wish, and then insert the card into the phone and use them right off the card? Did they SERIOUSLY make that stupid USB cable necessary?
2. My family has the super base-level txt plan (10 cents per text/25 cents per pix). If I do opt to just e-mailing myself song clips for use as ringtones, would I be charged 10 cents for a text or 25 cents because of the attachment? Will this even work without some form of txt/pix/flix plan?
Thanks in advance for any help, I've already received TONS just by reading through these forums.

jolintony: Hmmm, I've never had that problem myself before, but there are a few things you could try to see if the problem will go away. You can try using another type of email, preferably a non-Web based one (emails like Yahoo and Hotmail are web-based, and can be unreliable at times). It could be possible that its a problem on the email servers.
Also make sure that the file is kept under 350kb. The Chocolate can't accept anything larger than that, at least, not through an MMS message. Hopefully these suggestions will help.
charliexboi: You're most likely not doing anything wrong, blame it on the crappy external speaker of the Chocolate. Most of the time a song will sound extremely bad if it's really bass-heavy, or the amplification of the song is too high. If you listened to these same ringtones through a pair of headphones, they'd sound just fine.
If you have some extra knowledge working with a sound editor, just lower the amplification or reduce the bass-iness of the songs. Or, just lower the volume that your ringtone plays on your phone, that usually works too.
MakeoutBandit (.....interesting name...):
1. When it comes to your first question, I did run into the same problem myself. I bought myself a card reader, only to have the songs become unplayable on my phone. There was a big reason this happened to me though.
I was loading up the songs as WMA. Although WMA is the format that gets sent to you if you download a song through say, vCast, WMA only works when you have your phone synced via the USB cable. However, I tried the same thing with mp3s later, and they worked just fine. Just make sure you have all the proper id3 tags on them sorted out, and the filenames look appropriate, the phone can be weird with them sometimes.
So basically, you can use the card reader method, but only with .mp3s. Not that the format matters much anyways.
2. The emailing method will work regardless of whether you have a txt/pix/flix plan or not. However, being charged for it is another thing. To be honest, I have a text plan, so I cannot say if you will get charged or not. I've heard answers from both sides (you will get charged, you won't get charged since its through vzwpix.com), but I still don't have a definite answer. I do know that if you do get charged, it will be 25 cents per message because its an MMS, not an SMS.
Hope this helps everyone out a bit.

Actually yeah, now that I think about it, receiving a text message doesn't charge me anything, just sending it. So I maybe if I'm just accepting the e-mail I won't even get charged haha. But I shouldn't gripe about 25 cents when it could be a lot more hehe. And thankfully I'm firmly rooted in mp3 instead of wma so maybe I'll get lucky and be able to save 30 bucks on the music essentials kit. Thanks!

if i follow the original method that involves the music essentials kit, will the quality of the ringtones still be crappy, or will they sound as good as the ringtones that can be purchased through the phone

So let me get this straight...There is no way to get a ringtone from my Mini SD to the phone? Or did I miss this somewhere that it is possible, it just has to be a certain size and in a dif format? I did notice my phone will only recognize Mp3 files when used in the phone.
I guess I am wondering if there is a way to use my mini sd without the MEK to get ringtones or if I still need to email them. I currently drag and drop my mp3's onto my disk. via USB.
