Yeah, I can't get bitpim to find my phone on either my desktop or laptop. The MEK transfer method using USB and WMP10 works only on my laptop. WMP on my desktop won't detect the phone.

GREAT! I loaded my demo mp3. Doesnt sound too bad at all...volume is on medium.
Chuck (Using an Apple Powerbook G4 OS 10.4.6)
Thanks for your tips.....Using the usb>serial cable that came with Music Kit was totally a waste of time. I never got past recognize device after editing the settings after bitpim recognized it as 'other device'. it would never 'shake' hands properly on any of the VX settings.
Then I got bitpim to upload the mp3 after realizing both LG VX 8500 and my Powerbook had BLUETOOTH ! yea Bluetooth rocks!
BITPIM YOU RULE THANKS!!!
I'll have to back up my files choc>bitpim delete a few pics, ringtones
etc.....to free up internal memory so I can have my choice files.
Hmmm....how do I save the original data from the phone to a seperate archive?
I can return the Music Kit and am mulling over whether to keep the 2gb mem card that is 70 buc after rebate.
Thanks everyone!

*edit Now the question is what is the name of the driver and what directory would it be in so I can delete it?

Hi,
This has been very helpful! I just got a LG VX8300, and I tried sending an mp3 clip to the phone (it was around 125KB) to use as a ringtone. I got the message okay, and saved it to my ringtone list, but when I access it in the list, I hear nothing when it plays. I checked the size of the file and everythign and it's alright... so I'm not sure what's wrong. Any help would be appreciated!

>>>>>using BitPim<<<<<<< on an Apple Powerbook G4.
After you have "passed" the recognize phone test in the phone wizard, open the "media" directory and select the ringtones folder (ringers), then select add ringer....you will have to navigate to the folder or desktop where you kept the file you want to add, once you've selected it it will appear in the folder. Then all you have to do is select send data and voila. Now remember you will have to set up the port, type of phone etc in the Phone Wizard prefs. When you click on send data to phone another menu will pop up, make sure you select ADD and not Replace otherwise you replace any custom ringers you have on the phone. It would appear for me that the ringers etc that came with the phone cannot be deleted. At least I was unable to delete them but I don't really care as there seems to be alot of memory left.
I hope this helps. If you need additional help and its cool with you give me your AIM screen name, maybe I can walk you thru it.
and am editing down the xfiles ringyone as it is over 600k...(when it gets uploaded into the 8500 i guess it had to be compressed and plays weird)
So I'm using Audacity to edit it down to 2o secs or so and when I try to export it , it needs another app - LAME, however after downloading LAME for OSX I've expanded the compressed file .....it doesn't become a .dmg "image" and haven't figured out how to install it.
Anyone with clues?
Thanks

let me just say, good job with the help on this thread. now, i am a moron apparently. i had previously had bitpim with my vx 7000 and used to transfer ringtones all the time. now i dled the new version of bitpim and followed the instructions to get ringtones, but for some reason it wasnt working. i was really kicking myself for like an hour but it wouldnt work. then i realized i wasnt hitting the "send phone data" button . after that, it worked perfectly lol. so if anyone is having the same problems, check that out (older versions of bitpim didnt require u to hit the send phone data button). good luck
