make sure you have media player 10 not 11 and then I think you should go to microsoft.com , select support, enter the issue # 911091, and it will tell you the steps to get your phone working with your pc, given you have all the drivers and cables etc...hope this helps!

I have the same difficulty as lp067: I would like to drag-n-drop mp3s to my microsd, but the phone won't recognize them. (I had success with a wma uploaded to "my music.") I followed all the advice on this (excellent) thread: unlock mp3 player on the phone, format the card using the phone, tried putting the mp3s in different microsd folders, &c. Still, the phone won't recognize mp3s. I have *not* yet had the firmware upgrade installed at the shop (tho I got the phone after upgrade was released: SW version T83VZV01).
What am I doing wrong?
Meanwhile, this thread is great - helped me decide on the 8300, a perfect phone apart from the revanchiste voice-recognition and crappy VZ tweaks. Thanks all...

Your MP3 players are disabled. Here's the directions I used to turn it back on.
Enabling MP3
Menu
0
000000 (when the ?????? is displayed)
11 (Music Settings)
MP3 Enable
Formatting mini-SD (do this before placing card in any other devices)
Settings and Tools
4 (System)
4 (Manage Memory)
3 (Card Memory)
Options (lower right corner)
1 (Format Card) - your password is last 4 digits of your phone number
Enabling PLAY Shortcut Key (front panel)
Settings and Tools
1 (Tools)
3 (Shortcut Key)
2 (Play Key)
My MP3s
Ok. That is it. Now remove your mini-SD card, insert into your favoriate card reader and PC. Copy the MP3 files to the MY_MP3 folder on the mini-SD card. Insert mini-SD card back in to your VX8100 and enjoy all of your songs. To play them, hold down the play button on the front of your phone for 2+ seconds. You will see a song list and while playing a nice little equalizer display appears. You can also open your phone and the same display and controls are available.

I've noticed that a lot of people have trouble getting a data cable to install or work properly. I'm one of them. I bought a cable made for the LG VX8300 by LG , which didn't come with drivers. I've tried drivers (thanks to those helpful folks who posted links to them) which my computer promptly spit back at me. In one case, I got the dreaded BSOD which pointed to one of the USB drivers as the culprit. After several days of this, I've decided that my BT adapter and microSD card plus the card reader I've ordered will do just fine. I'm really surprised that BT was easier to set up than a cable! BITPIM is working great for me, and I'm pleased with the results from BT. I'm done sweating the issue, and I wish everyone who persists in their quest to use a data cable the very best of luck.

I found, after having Verizon upgrade my phone's firmware to v.03, that all of the above is no longer necessary ( or possible). The setting to enable mp3 is "not available", and the "enable Play shortcut key" is no longer there. However, I just use a card reader to transfer mp3 files from my Mac to the "My_Music" folder in the microSD card, and that is sufficient. I press the center button on the front of the phone and after several seconds it begins playing from the first song. However, I do not see any equalizer settings referred to elsewhere.

I love my LG VX8300 (on the Verizon network). I can get my PC (and BITPIM) to recognize the phone when I connect it via the sync cable I purchased. However, when I try using BITPIM to send data to/from the phone, all the selections are greyed out. I've tried a couple of different drivers, but the same thing happens.
Has anybody else had this problem? Do you know how I can get the "true" drivers, to see if that's still the problem?
Thank you

Never mind. I was able to get it working by:
1. upgrading BITPIM to v 0.9.0.7
2. download the driver from http://www.igonemobile.com/downloads/index.aspx
It worked perfectly after that.
Thank you

I think all you need to do is right click My Computer and select Manage. Select the phone and map a drive. It will now show up in Windows
