I have a question for those who are using a card reader. Do the files need to be in .wma before you drag n drop them or will they convert when you plug the card into the phone?
Thanks.

We decided to return it to the store so I reinserted the minicard(we removed it) while still attached the the computer and all the software was already installed. It works. When the mini card was plugged in we started up verizon media player and bam. A fargin miricale. Set up a sych and were in business after a hour with verizon support and three days worth of bullcokie.

I've read everyone's comments and I'm still lost. I just bought the VX8300 and I downloaded BitPim and the drivers. But I'm using a usb cable that I bought for my LG 6100. The cable does work when I want to transfer info from my phone to my laptop using BitPim, but I am unable to transfer music from my laptop to the phone with BitPim or Window's Media Player version 11. For some reason my pc does not show the phone listed in the device manager or under My Computer as a device. I am unable to add it as hardware through the wizard. Yet BitPim recognizes it. I suppose I should just buy a card reader and bypass the cable. But it's becoming a mission. Any suggestions?

So I've been doing this with my phone, and songs go on just fine. Now when I go to sync I get this error message:
Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error. This can occur when another program or operating system component encounters a problem but does not communicate the nature of the problem to the Player.
I can't for the life of me figure what this means. It worked, and now it doesnt. Any help would be great. I called microsoft and they were of no help to me.

To whom may need some help,
I couldn't get tunes to play by using my 1gb card alone .
But I downloaded the free veri/zon
music essential v cast thing and bought a phone to computer cord for ten bucks online .
I just followed what the download said to do then you plug in the phone.
Then you Rip cd'c (download your cd's) to the v cast music essential ( like the itunes thing ) but you rip it in to wma format. because as far as I can see , that's all my new 8300 plays (vo3 model)
After you have tunes in your v cast page THEN plug your phone in to the computer go to the get it now page hit OK , go to my music , hit it , and then click on the syn button. and just drag songs from the my music side to the my phone side and each time it automaticly syn's it ( puts it on th you memory card an the phone.
I just love it, works and sounds great .
any questions just send a reply and Ill see it good like ,
ps: buy everything after market. I did . its cheaper

I had the same problem. The problem is in the cable in the Music Essentials Kit that they sold you. They swapped it out for me and this one works perfectly. Look for this sticker on top left hand corner.
Supports:
LG vx 8100, 8300, 9800M Phones.

So I served my 4 hours on the phone with Verizon yesterday and installed patches and quick fixes and even another media player similar to WMP. They eventually referred me to an 800 number for LG. I called this and after eternal hold the rep informed me that my device would not even be recognized without the MicroSD card in there AND that it had to be a 1GB AND it had to be a SanDisk. Ok, I almost believe the part about it "you have to have your card in there", but I really think the brand and size shouldn't matter right?
Really, I don't know what difference it would make if I don't have my card in there. (I purchased a big plan from Verizon and hope to save a couple bucks by getting my memory card elsewhere later) All I am wanting to do is try it out on the phone's internal memory (I know, it only holds about 4 songs) and get the computer to recognize my phone.
I do have the music pack and all the correct software. I even tried Timmy's method of going directly to "device manager" on my computer.
When I do try to connect through WMP it shows that all my drivers are fine and almost connects when I press "sync" on my phone. Then it says something like "Found new hardware, problem occurred during installation hardware may not be installed properly".
PLEASE HELP.
