Hi I was wondering if anybody could help me with this.

I recently bought a USB data cable to transfer my contacts and SMS messages from my mobile Nokia 1110 to my computer. The cable fits but the software on the CD is only the trial version and with the trial version you can’t actually synch. The only piece of software that seems to support the Nokia 1110 is Logomanager Classic but to buy the full version costs $24.95. This is more than the cable. The other problem, but I am not sure of this, is that Logomanager seems to be for a serial connection not a USB. When I go into connection option it seems to be for a serial connection and my cable is a USB cable.

When I tried Mobtime (also on the CD) software the first phone it seemed to support was the Nokia 3100 I also went to the Nokia website but again the software they have for supporting transfer of information from a mobile seems to start at Nokia 3100

So I have bought this USB cable and trial software for $20 postage and packaging. I assumed the software would work. I am going to contact the seller, but even if he takes it back it is time and the expense of postage. In fact, I would like to get this working if at all possible but without paying for the software. I read the manual for the Nokia 1110 and it says nothing about transferring information using a data cable.

I suppose the first question is it actually possible to transfer information from this phone to a computer using a USB cable?

If so what is the software that does this?

Incidentally, I don’t know the name of the cable, the name on the box is USB Data Cable N6030 Series so I think it is really for this model.

I was trying to download it from Limewire but all the programs seemed to be corrupted or when I unzipped them I wasn’t authorised to access them.

Last week I got the phone unlocked. My local unlocker found it difficult. He said that he had to buy a cable and to update his software. But does this mean that it is possible to transfer information from one to the other with the right software?

I’d greatly appreciate any help here as this has taken up quite a lot of time, downloading corrupted software and trying to find an answer to this myself.

Thanks in advance

The 1110 was never designed to be connected to a computer.

You've got some cheap third party cable which fits under the battery, right?

The cables allow you to use an interface which is hidden under the battery and you're normally able to do the same stuff as with the phone that are able to be connected to a computer. But only with third party tools like Logomanager Classic, MobiMB or OxygenPhoneManager. The official Nokia software doesn't support such kind of connection.

Your cable might be a USB-Cable, it simulates serial connections and connects that way to the phone. If you take a look at the hardware of your computer (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Hardware-Manager) you should find a serial port which should be easily identifiable as a simulated one.

For the software: buy it!
The only ones which seem to work with your phones seem to be Logomanager Classic and Oxygen Express

Thanks for the info. Do you actually know somebody or have seen a 1110 used for transferring information because it seems like I am on the edge here.

I just checked Oxygen and they don't support the Nokia 1110.

The other thing that worries me slightly is the serial port. I followed you into the control panel, System, hardware but I don't have Hardware manager, I have Hardware profiles instead and in here it says Profile 1 (current). Is this the easily identifiable simulated serial port that you were talking about? I am on Windows XP.

Thanks for your time

Oxygen Express should work anyway, the 1110 isn't that different from the 1100.

Sorry, I did the wrong translation. It is the Device Manager I meant.

You shouldn't be worried about the virtual COM port/serial port, normal procedur for these cheap cables since the phone has no real USB interface but a serial interface. And because of that a serial port will be simulated.

You can also use Nokia 3310 and i believe 1110 and 3310 are just same according to the computer connetivity. As for as software concerned, you should use gammu opensource software with any Nokia model, all you need is a USB/Serical cable and that's all. Using gammu you can control your whole phone feature in computer.

Also you can setup an opensrouce SMS gateway using nokia 1110, 3310 or any phone. I don't say all phones are supported but i can say 90% of phone supported by opensource gammu. Personally i configured nokia 3310 phone beside a many others model with serial cable using Gammu and setup a few php script with mysql to view them on the web. Now i can send recieve SMS's from the web. I'm not gonna show you my personal URL because you will use my cell phone balance icon_smile.gif

However you can find here the way, How to connect nokia 3310 or any phone to your Linux machine and how to setup a SMS gateway. I've also successfully tested on windows.

Please feel free to ask any question.

Thanks

hi i also am having the same problem as unitel. i too bought an usb data cable for my 1110, and it doesn't fit under the battery, but in the four pins near the charging point at the bottom.
i also downloaded the trial version of logo manager, but the problem is that using it we can communicate only through serial port.
but, once i connected the phone to my usb port, it doesn't appear as a virtual serial port. how can i make the usb port appear as serial?
