i've spent some time reading various threads answering many of my questions about my new phone but there's still a few i haven't seen answered..
i've successfully transferred mp3s as ringtones via email attachment and saving the file as a ringtone on the phone, yet the quality is much lower than what it should be. this doesn't seem to make sense as the mp3s/wmas i have stored on the phone (i've also enabled the phone's mp3 capability) play back in near-perfect quality through the get it now/vcast interface. is it possible to have these high-quality files that i have stored on my microSD card set as my ringtone? that's pretty much the only thing i had in mind when choosing to buy the phone, and now here i am unable to do that. the preset ringtones are annoying and my newly emailed ones are in too poor of a quality that i don't really want to use them.
also, when composing text messages, the first text option is set to Abc as default. is there a setting somewhere to set t9 word as default? i can't seem to find that. i dont like having to switch to t9 after beginning to compose the messages all the time.
thanks..

Are you using the info from the Sticky: LG VX8300 Tutorial for Newbies??
Seems as though you should use Audacity and Lamelib. My ringtone quality is great when using that.
Give it a whirl...

hmm. i didnt think the audio quality would change depending on the program i used.. but it's possible. i've been using adobe audition to clip the files, and saving them as 192kbs. i'll try audacity. and yeah, i read the tutorial for newbies, but i opened that to initially find if it was possible to use my VCast music files as ringtones.
edit::
tried audacity, re-editing the audio files the same way i have been, re-sent it to my phone and etc, and the audio quality is still muddy and poor. i'm not sure why this is so, because my VCast songs play very clearly.

To change your text message entry mode, go to the messaging menu and then press the settings buttion (should be your top left button on the phone for this menu). Go to 1 (All Msg), and then 5 (Entry Mode) and change your entry mode to Word (not called T9 with this version).

I've been through the newbie guide and use audacity/lame to get mp3 ringtones, and that works well.
But does anyone know how to use mp3 ringtone files that are saved on a SD card as a ringtone? I mean, the same file will work as a ringtone just fine when it's in the phone memory, but I can't seem to access it when its on the card. Even though each of the mp3 ringtones is small, storing them all on the phone itself will quickly eat up the memory.

how does your mp3 ringtone quality compare to the vcast music files when played? i'm assuming you're using mp3s of songs with full instrumentation (a full band playing multiple instruments). mine constantly come in at a lower quality than the vcast files.

I've never downloaded a vcast file - it's too pricey for me. But when compared to regular mp3 files that I've played on the phone, the mp3 ringtones that I've made using audacity/lame come out pretty decent. Of course, compressing a 30-second clip into 100 kbs will degrade the quality, but it's almost the same, coming out of those speakers. Are you able to use vcast mp3s in its entirety as ringtones?

Does anyone know how to set mp3 clips from the SD card to be ringtones? I could just run them from the phone's internal memory, but I'd prefer them to be on my card.

when i say vcast music files, i'm talking about mp3s i've transferred to the computer from the phone. i've yet to download and pay for any song, and i'm not going to--
i'm trying to figure out the same thing you are, how to set my mp3 files on my SD card as ringtones. it's frustrating that there isn't some easy way to do this.
