Well the time has come for me to finally get a cell phone. ( Girl friend wants me to get one )
I am looking for help and advice from everyone about what may be good choice or not.
I know asking which service provider is better suited for me is a hit or miss thing. As everyone has their own opinion on the matter and which is better. I live on the east coast and looking at the "so called maps" that services extend to, i decided to go with verizon first. If anyone has any experince (good or bad) id much appreciate hearing your input about them.
Looking into what kind of cell phone to get, the LG VX8300, Samsun SCH-a930 or the new chocolate model released from verizon. I am leaning more towards the VX8300 model. The chocolate is way to fancy for me. The a-930 was really apealing to me but when i later found out it didnt support the navigation system like the 8300 or chocolate, I decided to go with that instead.
Rather this will sound to nit picky or demanding, I am looking for the following from a cell phone.
-Long distance calls anywhere in U.S.A
- Make calls anywhere in U.S.A (depending on coverage area of service provider)
- Navigation help or directions to destination (I do travel some and get lost easily)
To sum it all up, I am just looking for a reliable provider and neat cell phone to use. Never buying a cell phone or having to deal with them makes it a nervous experince to get one. I dont want to make the wrong choice and be stuck with a bad plan or cell phone for 1-2 years.
Thank you

CatMax. You did your research well and, IMO, came up with the right service provider and phone. The only thing I might recommend is if you go to rural areas often, you might want to check out a tri-mode phone, which works on analog systems.

Thank you for the reply Tampadelphian
I will have to look into what a tri-mode phone is and what analog system means.
As for rural areas, not so much. Living in Virginia where I am at, its mostly residential and open field.
When looking for what tri-mode and analog meant, I came across this post.
I understand most of it but the actual modes themselves. Is the tri-mode and analog a special type of phone or is it an option that has to be turned on or part of the plan?

analog is an older form of cellular service. I is less protected from cloning and less effective but common in less populated areas. If you were going to be in W Va, KY, Central Tenn etc then that "third mode" would be for you. But if you're going to be mostly up and down the 95 or 81 corridor then you should be good with a digital phone.

Well I literally debated the entire weekend if I should even get a cell phone or not. I still dont have one yet
I was excited to see the Verizon model LG VX8300 had a GPS navigator option along with the cell phone acording to mobiledia.com reviews. Well going to verizons website and checking out other information, the VX8300 model does not support this option.
In my previous post, I mentioned the Samsung A930 first appealed to me but when I found out it didnt support the VZ Navigator option, i looked into the VX8300 model. Truth is, the A930 does support the VZ Navigator.
I dont know if it should be reported to the people who reviewed it or not?

Thank you for the detailed information cbmaster
I noticed you said you included one of your favorite features "VZ Navigator".
I still fail to see that as an option, as when you go to verizonwireless.com and check the specs on the phone. It doesnt show it under options or supported features.
Am I missing something?

CatMax,
I would like to take a minute to beg you to ask around about service providers before you sign with Verizon. I travel quite a bit for my job and have found that among my coworkers Cingulair is the best in your area. I personally have experienced bad coverage, bad products, and bad customer service with Verizon. I have also had bad experience with LG products.
If you look around at other postings, the same people who are promoting Verizon in previous posts are pushing Verizon and giving information as Verizon reps.
Verizon seems to have gotten sneaky and dishonest in the last couple of years.

Notafan. I'm a Verizon rep and proud of it. I'm not being dishonest nor sneaky. I believe in the product that we provide. I am not by any means belittling your unfortunate experience with us, and wish that you had not left us with such a sour note. But I am not lying.
