I set mine to 1X also, but the battery seemed to die down a lot anyway. Finally I set the backlight "always off" since this doesn't shut it OFF, but just dims it so it's not so bright. I also turned off all bluetooth settings in the main settings and in the 0000000 settings.
I still have four bars and I charged it two days ago (using a larger battery I purchased extra with the phone).

I happen to live in a very reception friendly area outside of LA, and my workplace happens to be right in between two major Verizon antenna sites. I have found that when the phone is sticking to one type of reception, the battery lasts just fine. It's when it's constantly switching between different types of reception that the battery dies so fast. When my phone is placed in a certain area, it constantly switches between 1x, EV, and 1x/EV. I've seen my phone last less than 4 hours from constantly switching between the three receptions.
So I guess one way of trying to prolong the battery life is to try and keep it within one type of signal.

I haven't had any battery problems, and I use all the features.
OK, I spoke too soon. For some reason the first few charges lasted a couple days. Now I have to charge the phone nightly. not a big deal so far, but haven't traveled yet. Time to but an extra charger I guess.
I also have a 1 gig card, took it out, did notice a little improvement, but not much.

I received 2, chocolate, phones on 9/31. one for me and one for my wife. her phone will last 2 days on a charge and mine only 4 - 6 hours. I have a 2Gig SanDisk card she doesn't have any. We have about the same talk time.

just so you all know, i had read this post bfore buying my chocolate.
so when i got it, i turned the backlight to only stay on for 5 seconds, and i disables vcast in the secret options menu, since i cant get vcast in this area anyway. i have the standard battery, and on a full charge, mine went about 12 hours and only lost 1 bar of battery (so i stayed at 3/4). i then recharged it that night.
i woke up today around 9 with a full charge, and now at almost 2 pm, im still at a full charge.
hopefully the battery retains this kind of strength, or maybe im just lucky, but i think this is great battery life so far.

Is there a way to turn off the display light as the phone is charging?

I have the same problem , thanks noabrooks for the tip. I'll give it a try. I charge my phone every day and even after charging all night it never says battery fully charged. Glad to hear I'm not the only person having battery problems. I love the mp3 player so I'm going to take the micro disc out, it's too small and I'll probably lose it.

If you go into the menu and hit the 0 (zero) button a screen pops up the code for that screen is 00000 Five zeros.
noabrroks-
Thanks for the advice on my issue. I just adjusted my wife's phone to the X1 only. I did notice that the menu required six zeros (000000) on her phone not five. Maybe the firmware was different than yours.
Will this only effect VCast? I would hate to degrade her fancy new phone by using a hard set network configuration.
Before I adjusted the network I removed her 1GIG micro SD card earlier today and noticed that her battery seems to be holding the charge better. Maybe with the combination of setting and removing the card she'll gat an adequate battery life.
