I've had the phone for a week now. No problems whatsoever with the battery life!
I use about one hour of talk time a day and about another hour just fooling around with the controls. (nothing too battery intensive)
Out of the 4 battery bars, I'm down to 3 by the end of the day.
I recharge every night and so far, no problems at all!

Also heres just a heads up. When you very first get the phone, you are supposed to drain the battery completely all the way before ever charging it. Keep turning on the phone untill is just doesnt turn on at all, than charge all the way without turning the phone on. Also you have a 90 day battery warranty from Verizon if you have Verizon. If you didnt do this within 90 days, i suggest you go to your closest Verizon, and tell them your battery life is crap, and demand a new battery. Worked for me, and i did that trick, my phone lasts for 2 days with heavy talking.

I don't believe that trick is necessary anymore. Those were for the old Nickel Cadmium batteries. I think all batteries are now lithium ion and don't suffer from any memory effect.
What you may be experiencing is that your phone needs a couple of charges to get to a max charge. But discharging your phone all the way won't really affect battery life one way or the other! (I didn't do it with mine and I have similar results in terms of battery life!)

The first few days I had my VX8500, the battery would drain completely after listening to music for a few hours. Now that I've had the phone for over a week, I can listen to music for a few hours and still have 3 of the 4 bars.

I heard an interview with the CTO of a battery manufacturer (can't remember the name, but they make high performance batteries for portable devices) and he said that you should run a lithium ion battery all the way down and charge it fully ALWAYS! If you charge it every time it goes down a bit, it will loose its capacity and will soon have less than 50% of it's life. He also said that if you are going to have a device plugged in (like a computer) you should remove the battery at 50% charge and store it that way. In a device like a cell phone, you should always use the battery to it's full extent (get every drop out of it) and then charge it fully to get the longest life from it.

I had my LG chocolate phone for about 3 months... i recently started to notice problems with my battery. Even with the battery fully charged and without using it, my phone would die on me after 6 hrs or so. I remember when i first got the phone, it used to last for days since I don't use my phone that often. But now, I can't even leave my phone uncharged overnight b/c it would die on me in the morning.
I recently complained and got a replacement phone and battery, but the problem has not gone away. I foresee that this problem is NOT going to go away. For those who are experiencing the same problem, I suggest charging the phone every night or getting a extended life battery which run about $50. If you can, just get a new phone all together. I don't think this phone is practical based on its battery life.
Has anyone gotten an extended life battery and seen improvements on the battery life?

I'm having the same battery life issues with my Choco. Lasts about 16 hours on standby. I found this forum and then decided to call a tech at Verizon. She recommended that I move my wallpaper from my MicroSD card back to the phone memory. She says that this is a known issue that the phone will continually try to access the wallpaper on the card. Sound screwy to me, but I'm going to try this first, then try removing my MicroSD card and then try disabling the VCAST via "noabrooks" post using the "1x only" option. I hope that some combo of the three works cuz the phone is great otherwise.
Does anyone know of any other pitfalls of the "1X only" option besides VCAST not working?
BTW, the technician at Verizon had never heard of either of these other 2 potential fixes to the battery life issue.
Update: As I suspected, the Verizon tech didn't know what she was talking about as the wallpaper trick did absolutely nothing for my battery life that I could tell. Next I tried the "1x only" option and that fixed it. My battery life is now more what I expected. Hopefully Verizon will come out with a fix for this so I can use VCAST and not have to charge every 12 hours.
