Nokia today released its Software Updater.

It allows you to update the firmware of your phone yourself.

All you need is a DKU-2 or CA-52 cable to connect your phone to your computer. Also it is recommend to connect your phone to a charger.

So far only a few handset are supported:

Via PC:

E50
E60
E61
E62
E70

N70
N71
N72
N80
N91
N93

6630
6680
6681
6682

Only one phone so far is able to update the firmware over the air.

Over the Air:
6131

The download of the software is about 16 MB big.
It can be found here:
http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/softwareupdate
And here:
http://europe.nokia.com/A4176089

It does work. I've just updated my Nokia 6630 to latest firmware
Be aware that you do it on your own responsibility!

It seems the Nokia E61 will be added soon, the newest software recognizes the phone but can't find any newer software (but I know there is one).

I guess all N- and E-Series phone will be updateable with the software sooner or later.

As I thought: Nokia today officially added the E-Series to the list.

E50, E60, E61 and E70 are now supported.

I recently configured a new computer and looked online (Nokia USA) to upgrade the Software Package. Found firmware update software and installed. I can not use it to update my US model 6682. Any help?

Provider: Cingular

Los Angeles, Ca.

Update: Successful Update w/Software Updater.

I read deeper into the forum history and found MY error, OPERATOR ERROR. I failed to look at the bullet before the text on the software menu, click the blue bullet to proceed with update download. 6682 firmware update complete and successfull v 3.01.1 to v 4.65.0
Thank you forum and Moderator

I asume that this isn't available for 6682 by Cingular. The firmware is branded and the Nokia update only supports unbranded phones (if you're from the UK they should support phones which have been branded by UK providers).

Also it is only a test by Nokia limited to the UK (but seems to work at least for free phones). After an successfull test in the UK Nokia will widen all over the world.

The firmware of the 7610 isn't public domain. Downloading it is not legal.
