Yeah it sucks because I've been with At&t wireless which was bought out by Cingular then now called the "new At&t" for 7 years and might end up having to switch to another provider. They're phasing out the TDMA service and is forcing all customers with that service to switch to the GSM plans however doing this does not benefit me at all and even after being such a loyal customer they can't even offer me any incentive for switching. I currently have a $29.99 plan and it includes 600 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends which starts at 7 pm, unlimited mobile to mobile, and free nationwide long distance, and all the regular features like caller id, call waiting, three way calling, etc. Currently all their plans start at 9 pm and if you want it to start at 7 pm you have to pay extra and the minutes are less. I think it's unfair because my brother currently have the old At&t GSM plan when they were first bought out by Cingular and is at $39.99 with 800 anytime minutes, unlimited nights and weekends starting at 7 pm, unlimited mobile to mobile. I wish they could have warned us then so we could have switch to the GSM plans which were better then.

Something similar happened to me. I had the old $29.99 plan and when my old phone died I called to cancel because I saw that they no longer had the $29.99 plan. They switched me to the sales dept (I think) and the rep, Chris, told me all I had to do was buy the phone on-line and I could keep my $29.99 plan because they wanted to keep my business, having been with them for 4 years with no upgrades. When I told the rep that it was only showing a $39.99 plan, he said, no problem, he'd switch it over and call me back to confirm that he did so. He called me back, acted like he switched it over, saying, "Okay, it's done". He also said he'd waive the activation fee. Then I got my bill for $39.99 and activation fee. When I called back the girl I talked to said they couldn't fix the problem and that I misunderstood the rep, that if I'd signed on under my old account number it would have worked. I don't know if that is true or not but I resented being told I misunderstood when the rep, Chris, lied to me. The girl I spoke to was like a bored robot who couldn't care less--that is, when she wasn't being rude. I told them to cancel my old plan and I'd return the phone and cancel the new plan.

first of all AT&T wireless went bankrupt (guess to many customers asking to have they're bills paid all the time, but that just MO) and cingular purchased it. now cingular and SBC who purchased AT&T landline and the name, merged together, now under the name AT&T.
Second of all. concider yourself lucky that when cingular purchased at&t wireless that they didn't make you all give up your phones and go with there's, like so many other company's do when your provider was purchased. no they let you keep it.
Now remember, times change, technology changes. they USA is the only place that has TDMA service, and it's not all that great. heck, europe never had it. with all the people traveling all over the world, they're trying to get everyone on the same technology to use when they travel, so they don't complain all the time. some would say that was a smart idea.
It's funny that people complain about a 29.99 plan that had multiple minutes that you'll never use, and also lose if not used at end of bill cycle. AT&T wireless threw min at you just to hold u to the merger, that wasn't cingular's idea. How about those gsm blue customers who had an unlimited min plan for 99.99. look at what they're losing, but they're still losing it due to the sim card changes. I would be thankful that AT&T (cingular) actually does offer the 29.99 200 anytime / 1000 n/w plan. all those blue customers paying only 29.99 can stay there at that rate, and still not use phone often. I don't see any other company in the usa offering that
