any advice on how to avoid paying the early deactivation fee? i have a sprint plan with a year and a half left on my plan....just purchased a blackberry with a verizon plan for work and love it more. i want to cancel my sprint plan and only use my verizon plan because of the convenience and the better-reception of it all. I live in New York city and verizon seems to have much better reception in the area of New York that i live...any ideas/advice???

change the account into someone's name who is will ing to take it over. you'll avoid the fee and not be tied to the account in any way financially.
it's usually referred to a a change of financial responsibility or transfer of service.

Several years ago there was a loophole in the two year contracts that if you decided to get out of your contract you could do so if you did it within the 30 days prior to the start of the second year of your contract.
Did that rule get changed or are the cell companies just ignoring it?

I imagine that no one paying two year discounts to retailers for the sales of phones would allow that loophole to stay in for long.
