I bought a SLVR L6 on ebay from a company in California. The info said it was a QUAD band, I use Cingular, and to beware of those selling TRI band phones. But the box says TRI band on it, as well as the book that came with it. I ask the seller and his responce is:
We asure you that these phones are quad band. The box and manual says it's triband, but we have upgraded the phones for your better use.
My question to anyone in the know, can this be done? Or did I buy a bridge too???? It seems to work OK, but it also has some quirks, like its been droping calls, even more than my V551. I thought the QUAD band was hardware function?? How would they update this to add the 850 GSM? It is 900/1800/1900. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So how did you edit it to be a Quad band phone? Is it a software change? Mine seems to drift bad. The person on the other end comes and goes as well as my phone to them.

OK, I'll walk you through it. Here's how you find out:
settings - phone status - other information (at bottom) - technology - it will say Quad-Band GSM
If you want to check further (if you don't believe that), do this:
settings - network - network setup (it will say band: automatic...click on it anyway) - you will see choices for automatic, 850/1900, and 900/1800. That means it's quad-band!
Hope this helps. And for the record, I'm pretty sure that all Motorola's, at least the V series and L series, are all quad-band. Let me know by email if you find anything different. I'm a Cingular rep. in KY.

Hey Cingular rep I looked at mine and it says GSM 900/1800-1900,And this is after I hacked it,So under band it says 850/1900 and 900/1800,and still reads GSM 900/1800-1900..
And it seems that when I make a call that the signal strength drops down, and when I hang up it comes back up.. I would love to hear your thoughts on this..
Thanks

Sounds to me like you have a "bad" phone. The first L2 that I got wouldn't ring for some reason...then I switched it out with another one and haven't looked back. Sometimes phones are just faulty. And with them being that thin, there is more room to make an error such as that. My old Moto V551 did the same thing, and I had the battery replaced and it worked. So, my suggestion would be to try a new battery, perhaps a new sim card (shouldn't cost you anything, and if they try to charge you, let me know) or a new phone. If it is still under warranty, you should be able to call Cingular and they'll send you a replacement phone.
As for the tri-band problem...hmm...where did you get your phone? Was it locked or unlocked? I need to know some numbers on the back and I'll let you know. If you'd like, email me this info instead of posting it (it's up to you). My email address where you can best reach me is -edited-.com. Let me know what's up. Hope I can be of some help to you.

OK, I found this on another web site. I do not know if this will work, as I have not tried it, but this must be how my phone ended up a QUAD band phone after starting life as a TRI band. If someone can verify this process great, if you use this, USA AT YOUR OWN RISK, I am just passing it on. Several people claimed it worked for them on this web site. Good luck. Lyle

L6 Seem Edit for Quad-Band (step by step)
I've been asked over 20 times now how to do the quadband seem edit for the L6, so I figured I'd just put a post up and direct people to it...
This is information I found around the net on how to do it, and it worked great for me, so here it is:
You’ll need a data cable for this. I’ll show you where to get the drivers and software..
1. Go to www.motomodders.net and register for the forums (for free). This gives you access to the downloads area.
2. After registering, click on the ‘Downloads’ link at the top, go to ‘Software’, and click on ‘P2K Software’.
3. Scroll down the page and download the Motorola driver pack.
4. Unzip the driver pack into a folder.
5. On the same webpage at the top, download the P2K Manager software.
6. Unzip this to a folder.
7. Download this file for hex editing: http://www.handshake.de/user/chmaas...nload/xvi32.zip.
8. Unzip this software into a folder.
Now that you have all the software you need to do this, we just have to pull the seems from the phone, edit them, and upload them back to the phone. It’s very quick and easy… This was my first seem edit, and it took me about 10 minutes total to get all the software and do this.
Steps to install the phone drivers:
1. Plug the phone into the computer with the data cable. It will bring up the found new hardware wizard.
2. When it asks if you want Windows to find the software automatically or to specify a folder, click on the ‘Specify a location’ button and browse to the folder you unzipped the Motorola driver pack to.
3. Once this is installed, it will install about 4 other items, which you just point to the Motorola driver pack folder to install these also.
Steps to download the seems:
1. Open the P2K Manager software.
2. After about 5 seconds, the bottom status bar will say ‘Connected’ if your phone was installed properly.
3. In the bottom of this window, there’s a ‘Seem’ box. This is where we download and upload the seems. Next to where it says ‘From’, type 0025, and next to the ‘To’ box, type 0025.
4. Press the ‘Download Seem’ button right below it. It will ask where you want to save this seem. You MUST leave the filename xxxx_yyyy.seem. Once you hit ‘Save’, it will save it with the name of 0025_0001.seem onto your computer.
5. Do the same steps as step 4, but enter the seem 0032 in the From and To box.
6. Press ‘Download Seem’ and then leave the name xxxx_yyyy.seem. It will save this seem as 0032_0001.seem onto your computer.
Make a copy of these 2 seem files into another folder, incase you need to upload them again.
Now, it’s time to edit the seems:
1. Open the XVI32 software. This is a standard hex editing software package.
2. Click on the ‘File’ menu and choose ‘Open’.
3. Browse to the folder where you saved the Seem files.
4. Click on the 0025_0001.seem and click ‘Open’.
5. There will only be one piece of information in this file. Click once on the grid where you see the numbers showing up. I believe mine said 00 in the box before I edited it, and in the bottom left status bar, it says ‘Adr. Hex: 00’.
6. Click on the ‘Tools’ menu and choose ‘Bit manipulation’.
7. Bit 0 and Bit 3 will have a check in them when you open this window. This sets the phone to 900/1800/1900 band. Leave these checked and put a check in the box for Bit 1. This will change the phone to 850/900/1800/1900.
8. Press the ‘Set’ button.
9. Now, click on the ‘File’ menu and click on ‘Save’.
The first file is done. It’s time to edit the second file.
1. Stay in the XVI32 software. Click on ‘File’ and ‘Open’.
2. Browse to the folder you saved the seems and open the 0032_0001.seem.
3. There will be a lot more information in this file.
4. Click on the boxes until you see ‘Adr. Hex: 50’ in the status bar at the bottom.
5. Once you find it, click on ‘Tools’ menu and ‘Bit Manipulation.
6. Put a check in the box for Bit 0. This enables 850 MHz.
7. Press ‘Set’.
8. Click on the ‘File’ menu and click ‘Save’.
9. You can close the XVI32 software now.
Now, the seems are edited and ready to be sent back to the phone.
1. Open the P2K Manager software.
2. In the ‘Seem’ box, next to where it says the word ‘Seem’, enter 0025 and in the ‘Rec’ box to the right of that, enter 0001.
3. Press the ‘Upload Seem’ button.
4. In the box at the bottom, it should say ‘File Upload… <more information> ok.’ If it says ‘ok’ at the end, it means the seem uploaded properly.
5. Now, it’s time to upload the next seem. In the ‘Seem’ box, enter 0032 and in the ‘Rec’ box, enter 0001.
6. Press the ‘Upload Seem’ button. It should say OK at the bottom again.
Now that the seems are uploaded, click on the ‘Restart Phone’ button on the P2K Manager software. The phone will restart, and possibly lock up for a minute. You can power off the phone and back on again and you will then have a quad band phone.

Hi folks.
I just bought an L6 from eBay today, and the seller claimed it to be Quadband, and to beware from others selling Triband.
It works fine in my neighborhood, but I stay in bay area, where there must be a 1900 band from Cingular I suppose.
Now, when i go to
Settings->Phone Status->Other Information->Technology,
it shows me GSM 900/1800-1900
But when I got to
Settings->Network->Network Setup/Band, it shows me following 3 options.
Automatic
850/1900
900/1800
Does that mean, that the 850 Mhz band has been activated in the firmware?
I have selected the 850/1900 option.
(I am assuming that the eBay seller who sold the phone to me, must have done a seem edit)
Those who have done the seem edit, does your phone show the above settings as mine?
Please share your thoughts and/or experiences.
thanks,
ftp

Did you buy from the guy in Garden Grove? Thats where I got mine. I have trouble in my local area, which may be the 850. I have used mine all over the US, but in WA state, I have the most trouble...then again Cingular has serious problems here as anyone but the Cing folks will own up to. The phone seems to work good, but don't call Cing for any help as they will tell you, "Its not our phone." I am also, not sure if your warentee with Motorola will be honored, as its a moded phone.
