So I had skimmed through the 8300 for newbies and didn't find anything about it. I just bought 2 8300s, one for myself and one for my bf. I've lived with the 6100 and 8100 and never had this problem. His phone seems to be fine but mine is all kinds of messed up.

Problem 1: I can't erase text messages. I'm only allowed to read them once. When I open it after the 1st read, it'll say No Content. It also won't let me keep more than 3 text messages in my Inbox. It's also multiplying text messages so I always have 3 in the Inbox, but I can't read or erase any of them.

Problem 2: I put my ringtones on via BitPim. I had problems with that too. It said the transfer was successful but it never showed on my phone. Then finally after several hours of trying, it saved onto the phone. I set some tones for certain people. The next morning (I don't turn my phone off), all the tones were gone but only a few of the ringtones that were set for people were saved. What's up with that?

Problem 3: To my knowledge, I don't have anything really saved to the phone memory, yet it says it's maxed out. I have everything set to my memory card, which is 1Gb and that's fine. I'm trying to record sounds, saved to my memory card, and it won't record. Once I hit "record" it automatically goes to "Saved To Card."

If anybody can help me with any of these problems, I'd greatly appreciate it. If somebody out there can help me, I should let you know that I bought this phone off of eBay, new, wrapped, in the box, so going to a Verizon store is out I guess. icon_confused.gif

Thanks,
Darlene

My guess is the person you purchased the phone from was a worker at verizon or the phone manufacturer...or somehow had some connection to either and is sellin the returned and possibly refurbished phones online since they knew they couldn't sell them in a verizon store...if that makes since.

You could try contacting the supplier for a refund, but if there's no response, I'd report them to ebay.

That's really all I have since the problems are clearly caused by internal defects and can't be corrected by the typical resolutions listed in here...except maybe turning off the phone and removing the battery for a day or two. Perhaps try a new battery?

Good luck!

Definitely sounds like firmware issues. When loading data into the device via BitPim, aod.dat must be deleted and the phone must be power cycled. Chances are, that file's been corrupted so it's not indexing any of the phone's contents whatsoever, including the text messages.

I'd take it into a Verizon Wireless store and get a firmware update.
