I haven't messed with my phone for months, so I've more or less forgotten much of what I used to know. Oops. icon_smile.gif

I'd like to flash to 0E.42.10R (full filename R374_G_0E.42.10R_A_Reflash_MinusLP_NO_DRM), but I can't find a definitive answer if it's compatible with the V3. Also can't find if I will have to flex my phone as well in order to make it work, and what flex I should use.

I've flexed my phone before - but like I said, I forgot. Once I flex, which files will I have to restore to my phone to get all my contact info/alarms/various data back to its original state?

Thanks for any help!

Yes that file is for the V3.

No need to flex - so any alarms etc will be unchanged

Thanks Mike!

Another question - would I gain anything from flexing right now? My current flex version is GSMV3MXCIN01NA0F5.

I haven't had any problems with this flex (it's the stock flex from roughly a year ago), but if I can gain anything from a newer one it'd be great. If a flex would be good for my phone, is there a link you can give me with instructions on what to back up so I can restore my phone to its current state after I flex?

What I wrote at http://www.themotoguide.com/faq.php

Why should I flex my phone?

IMO there are 3 reasons to do this:

1) You messed up your phone and need to recover

2) You changed provider and want your new providers settings and branding

3) You want to enable a feature i.e. video recording and feel you cannot do the edits yourself

- 3) is a misnomer since you inevitably end up having to SEEM edit anyway to put things how you like them

Hmmmm, has Motorola enabled any new features on the V3 phones that I'd get if I flexed to a newer version, or would that be purely hardware? I know on the newer V3s (V3x, etc) there's GPS stuff and a few other neat features. But I'm not versed enough to know if that's purely software or a mix between hardware and software.

There is nothing in any flex that cannot be enabled via seem editing - a flex is merely the seems and files

Successfully flashed. Thanks for verifying that this firmware would work with my V3! Is there a site with firmware changelogs? I am unable to find any such thing, and the zip file I downloaded with the firmware doesn't have anything but the .shx file in it.

Not really I'm afraid - I have come across a couple of motorola documents in the past but links to these are not permitted and they are not as useful as they should be anyway - for example changes between 40.79R and 42.0ER - kinda like listing changes between windows 95 and XP
