I'm thinking this might be a "no crap" answer on my part, but I don't know if these pre-paid phones are touchy. I want to buy a new one cause the one I have is just getting on my nerves. Was wondering if I could just buy a new phone and put my SIM chip in the new one, would it still work. And was also wondering if anyone else has done it [as a reassuring way to know its going to work]
Thanks.

HI, I work in Pre-Paid tier 1 support and you can change ur go phone anytime you want, there is no restrictions on whether the sim is pre-paid or post paid, as long as it is a cingular sim it will work. There is no actual pre paid upgrade team so ur upgrade must be done in store, just walk in there pick out the phone you want, and buy it, call us and change the IMEI on the phone for warranty purposes and ur ready to go, make sure that u tell them that u already have an account. I wish they would make it more common knowledge that you can buy the Go Phones and not have to sign the 2 year contracts.

actually there are NO contracts whatsoever on a Gophone service
I dont know how more blatant the ads can be...
Phones starting at $29.99
No annual contract.
No credit check.
No deposit.
thats from the website...
same verbiage on the commercials (verbatim)

Yeah, what made you think that you'd have to sign a contract with GO phones?

you certainly CAN change your gophone. BUT how often do you turn your phone off? so many "touchy" problems (frequent dropped calls for instance) are caused by people NEVER turning their phone off.
i had one lady call in because none of her keys responded to her touch. she couldn't answer her phone. she couldn't dial anyone, either. the keys did nothing. i asked her if she ever turned her phone off. NO, she said.
I had her do a second-level reset (pull the battery out while phone is still on)...wait a few moments...replace battery and turn on.
voila!!! it worked. then i advised her to turn the phone off at least a couple times per week. preferably every day. it IS a little computer and needs a chance to reboot and clear out its memory. probably good for it to cool down, too.
not saying that YOU never turn your phone off...but just in case...becuase that can cause weird problems with the phones.
cheers.

hmmmm...do you mean as a replacement for a phone that you bought as a contract phone?
i have been instructed NOT to suggest that as a replacement option...which upset me cuz i deal with a lot poor people who arent eligible for upgrades, don't have insurance, are out of warranty (or warranty doesnt apply)...so they have a 50.00 phone bill and no phone. usu they were mad until i told them they could buy a 50.00 prepaid phone and stick their sim in it.
now, i hear from one floor rep a while back that cingular is locking the prepaids so they dont accept contract sims.
so if OP means can he put his contract phone sim in a new prepaid phone...i am not so sure about that.
today i stopped at a radio shack and was told the cheapest no-commitment price for non-gophones is approx 200.00 bux. i fail to understand the reasoning behind this. one shelf over are perfectly great cell phones for 50.00...they're just prepaids.
