If you plug in your USB or even your bluetooth device and roam the phone open up your "ringtunes" folder there you will see what songs you have in that folder...the next step is just to click and drag the song that you want as a ringtone into the "ringtune" folder and thats basically it. |
how does one "roam the phone"?

its simple to use just download the program once downloaded
click add choose the song on your computer that you want as a ringtone
and click resume this will allow the song that you want as a ringtone to be used. now simply just go back to the folder in wich you originally chose the song from you will see that you have a DRM folder created
click and drag that song into the ringtune folder you can do this through your USB or via bluetooth Click>Drag
the go into the MENU>FILE MANAGER?RINGTUNES> and there you should be able to select more then use as and finally use it as a ringtone im not sure why this is rogers just wants to take more money from us..but with the DRM software you should be able to do so.
i hope that this info helps you out...
cheers! |
Sorry but I'm still a little unclear on what exacly I'm supposed to be doing here, could you post up a link to the actual file that needs to be downloaded and go into a bit more detail on what it is I have to be doing with it? Thanks.

I have a w300 and am using a Rogers branded phone.
I followed these steps so far:
Using Audacity, cut the file to <30 seconds and was only 467kb.
Export to MP3
Purchased Soundtaxi to remove DRM.
Convert the file
Copy and paste the converted file into the phone in either ringtunes or the MP3 folder on memory stick.
When i go to settings --> ringtunes & alerts and try to select it as a ringtune, it won't find the file.
I can play it as an mp3.
Any idea what I'm missing here?

I am kind of new at this too.. maybe i need more detailed insturctions.. but im wondering who could help me with this.. ive spent quite a sum on this phone and am really upset and dissapointed.

I do have a Sony Ericsson W300i from Fido/Rogers, and I did have the same problem with mp3 files. I was able to play them but not set them up as ringtones, which does make no sense whatsoever. However, after lots of tinkering and reading on the internet, I did find a way to solve my problem.

here is how I fixed my problem:
1.
Go to:
audacity.sourceforge.net
They have an awesome free & open source sound editor. You can use that to convert audio files between various formats, edit the sound tracks and add all sorts of effects and sounds.
2.
Go to:
www.free-codecs.com/download/Lame_Encoder.htm
(or some alternate site) to download the LAME mp3 encoder (surprisingly, the audacity distribution does not contain the dll for conversion to mp3). You will need to download lame_enc.dll mainly, which is needed by audacity for conversion of whatever audio format to mp3.
3.
After you processed and cut your favorite song then converted it to mp3, go to:
developer.sonyericsson.com/getDocument.do?docId=76997
Get the DRM packager, then do package your mp3 file. Right after that, you can use the file as a ringtone.
The size of the file does not seem to matter. I was able to set as ringtone a mp3 file of about 3.5 MB file after running it through the DRM packager. Some people posted previously that if you cut the file to under 600 KB you can then use it as a ringtone. That didn't work for me. I tried with files around 500 kB and still didn't work. The only thing that did the trick was the DRM packager. But maybe this could be particular to FIDO/Rogers phones.

Hello all~
I've read all of your posts and I'm still confused. I don't know what this "Rogers" thing is that everyone is speaking of, so please let me start from the beginning.
I just recently got my w300i from Cingular via an upgrade. I transfered a song by way of the Disc2Phone and found that I couldn't use the song as a ringtone. I'm not real savvy when it comes to this because this is the first phone that I've had that plays MP3's. Can someone please tell me how to make songs that I've transfered to my phone into ringtones? Do I need to download some kind of software and if so, can you please be really specific of the site I get it from and where on the site I find the link to download it and what to do from there? I was really excited when I got this phone and now I feel a 'lil let down that I can't do what I originally had planned on doing when I got this phone. I would GREATLY APPRECIATE any help that anyone can provide. I want to be able to get the most out of this phone. I love it so far except for this one drawback.
Thanks in advance!
