I am having trouble setting mp3 files as my ringtune. Any midi files on the phone will work but no mp3 files, including the ones that came with the phone will work.
If I access the file through file manager and go more>use as it shows a menu which has the option of setting it as a ringtune but it is grayed out. If I select it, it says "Cannot set this file as a ringtune."
If I try to access the files through the ringtune selector they will not be there. The folders for asrtists and midi files are there, but no files.
I have found one other place online where someone has the same problem, but no one has responded to their query.

Any help is appreciated.

That is a tough one. I have the w300i for a week now and put whatever ringtone I wanted on as a MP3. I transferred the song over through file transfer into the ringtone folder. Once it was in my phone, I just assigned whatever ringtone I wanted for my address books. This is probably no help. It may be a glitch with your particular phone. I did the same process on 2 phones with no issues.

invalid101, it would help if you gave more information if you phone is unlocked or not. If it's unlocked, then yes you can set an MP3 as a ringtone. If it's branded to Rogers, then that might be the reason.

Yes, it is branded to Rogers. I find it weird that Rogers would lock that feature, since it was one of the advertised options. My sister's phone (same phone, plan) does the same thing.

Yeah, it sucks that Rogers disabled this feature. It's also disabled on the W810i as well. Probbaly for the fact that they want you to buy ringtones for a profit.
What you can do is flash the firmware to have it debranded from Rogers. This will enable you to use your MP3's as ringtones. However, keep in mind that debranding it will void the warranty. It's basically your call...if you want the MP3 ringtones that badly, or having warranty to fall back on if there is anything wrong with the phone to have it replaced by Rogers.

Well the main reason I bought the phone was for the mp3 ringtones. Can you tell me how exactly to flash the firmware?

I live in a pretty small (in population, in area it's one of the biggest in Canada) city. I don't think we have one of those...

Check classifieds, services, even Craigslist to see if there is some person or business who can help you with flashing your phone. You can also mail it to businesses that deal with this situation. iUnlock.com is one that I would prefer because the people who handle your phone are very professional. IF it is your last resort, you might want to do it yourself IF you are comfortable with that. You can do a search here and on Google to see what you need and a how-to guide for your phone.
