I read somewhere a couple of months or so ago that Verizon is going to no longer require customers to sign a new one or two year contract when upgrading their current cellphone. I'm unable to find the article, but it was quoted by someone in their organization, either the CEO or represensative. I may have seen it on a consumer news report.
Has anyone here heard of this? I've been a Verizon customer for 10 years.
Thanks!

That's probably never going to happen, at least as long as you want a discount for the price of the phone. We are, however, going to allow under many circumstances the ability to upgrade annually as well as prorate the ETF depending on how much time is left in the contract. I don't exactly know when this is rolling out but I'd guess 10/1.

Thanks for the info. I'd just as soon pay a reasonable amount for one replacement phone and not commit to another two years. I'm hesitant to change our calling plan (America's Choice-with an additional member) for fear we'll lose the plan benefits that are already in place. We'd rather have the monthly fee reduced or remain the same and not more minutes. I've been pondering calling Verizon to see what sort of deal they might be willing to offer us. One of our cell phones is barely used and I've thought of getting my self a TracFone or such to cut back on the montly Verizon charges. We pay a good deal of money for lots of unused minutes. There again, if we go back to just one phone on America's Choice and then decide at a later date to reinstate the extra user, I figure the plan may not be identical.
Thanks for your input!

You do have the option to purchase the new phone with a 1 year rather than 2 year agreement. It would be $50 more for the phone than it would be with the 2 year price.

That's good to know. I'll have to look into this more. Do you by any chance work for Verizon?
It used to be $175 early termination fee for each line? Don't recall all the fine print.
We appreciate your help and suggestions. Feel free to make any suggestions or corrections.

Yes I'm a rep in a call center. The ETF is $175 for each line.

Verizon is already getting on my nerves with the $30 music kit just to use your own sound as a ringtone..so with this article you read...that would be awesome if it came true!

That's interesting. I ordered the Music Kit with my a930 and received the kit for the RAZR V3c.
I have to send it back as soon as I get the correct kit. But now we know why they dont have any left. They have them in the wrong pick-bin
