I recently got T-Mobile service on my first cell phone. As I make few calls, I got no service plan. I have "T-Mobile To Go" AKA "Pay-As-You-Go". What I didn't realize, as it's not posted on their website, nor in their brochures, is that I get a daily service charge. This explains why my account balance has been dwindling down even on days when not using the phone. Since my account is pre-paid, I have no account details to see. So it appears that I am being charged $30/month just for service plus I get charged for each call. To add insult to injury, T-Mobile sent me a Text Message and I was charged for that, too. Do all other carriers also charge $1/day for service?

the only reference I found at the website was for texting....
Sidekick® rates
Get unlimited e-mail, Web browsing, domestic instant messaging, and domestic text messaging for $1 per day, and spend only $0.15 per minute for nationwide calls.
so if you are texting it sounds like a valid charge
the link for this is

No, I was not text messaging until today when T-Mobile sent me my password via text. I was getting the charge before doing any text messaging. There must be a service charge for pre-paid service as my friend, who has Nextel service, also gets charged daily. It must be with all carriers.

I would call them and get a detailed rundown on the charges and their origination to be sure...
call them from a land phone
(800) 937-8997
it could be the way your phone is set up...

I did notice that on my phone, when I access "T-Zones", I get "Web & Applications". Then I get CNN text, ABC News text, ESPN, etc. but no access to the Internet. Am I being charged for this service? I thought it was free, as it was already programmed into my Motorola phone.

I noticed you said you have a Motorola phone. If so, then the ToGo should not have a daily usage fee. Did you get the phone from T-Mobile? Call customer service.
I got my Samsung from Tmobile on the ToGo plan, and do not have a daily access fee. I think you have to pay it if you have the sidekick.

It sounds like some how you got set up on a SK plan which does charge $1/day to use the data feature.
If you are only using a regular cell phone you shouldn't be able to see the CNN and other outside services, only the ringtones and other downloads.
I would recommend calling to see which pay as you go plan you are on and if you didn't purchase and aren't using a Sidekick I would ask them to change you back and see about a credit to your account.
Let us know what happens

T-Mobile claims there is no $1 charge. I spoke to a service rep. She said that all my fees were from calls. She claims that I am not being charged to receive ABC, CNN, etc. that it's included for free. I will now keep a diary and list all my calls. As a "Pay-As-You-Go", they will not show me a list of charges. I will inquire about the SK Plan. I never heard of this.

SK plan is Sidekick plan...
We have two types of Prepaid plans - One for Sidekick users - Which is like Elmo said above - and the other other is for normal cell users and is called 'Real Rates'
