Sept. 7, 2006 -- J.D. Power and Associates released the results of its latest Wireless Call Quality Performance study today, and Verizon Wireless outperformed all national wireless providers. We ranked highest in the Southeast Region for J.D. Power. The region includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Results from third-party research like the Call Quality Performance study reinforce our network leadership in the marketplace. The company has invested $30 billion in our nationwide network over the past six years to stay ahead of customer demand. This helps ensure our customers’ experience with our products and services is the best, and as a result, we lead the wireless industry in customer retention.
Congratulations to the Network team for your contributions and results, and commitment to maintaining and enhancing the most reliable wireless network. The following news release was distributed to the national media today.
VERIZON WIRELESS RANKS HIGHEST IN CALL QUALITY IN J.D. POWER AND ASSOCIATES CALL QUALITY STUDY VOLUME 2
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - Verizon Wireless ranked highest among the top five national wireless providers nationally and scored significantly above the industry average in the J.D. Power and Associates Wireless Call Quality Performance Study Volume 2, issued today.
The J.D. Power and Associates Wireless Call Quality Performance Study employs a call quality index based on criteria that impact overall carrier performance. The wireless phone subscribers surveyed were asked about their experiences with static/interference, connection on first try, voice distortion, echoes, dropped/disconnected calls, immediate voice mail notification and immediate text message notification. Overall, Verizon Wireless performed above average in several categories, including calls with static, drops/disconnects, voice distortion and calls not connected on the first try.
"Our reputation as the most reliable wireless provider is a result of our continued investment of billions of dollars into our network and our unwavering commitment to turn this investment into quality service improvements for our customers," said Dick Lynch, executive vice president and chief technology officer for Verizon Wireless. "We have established rigid testing procedures that allow for objective comparisons of factors that affect network reliability, such as the wireless customer's ability to make and receive calls. We are committed to this process as a means of constantly monitoring and improving our network. This helps us to assure our network remains the one that our customers can rely on."
Verizon Wireless has invested $30 billion in the last six years -- $5 billion on average every year since the company was formed -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its national network and to add new services. The company's most reliable wireless network claim is based on network studies performed by real-life test men and test women who inspired the company's national advertising campaign. These engineers conduct more than 750,000 voice call attempts and 1.4 million data tests quarterly on Verizon Wireless' and other national carriers' networks while traveling more than 225,000 miles in specially equipped, company-owned test vehicles.
(I needed to change the header, it was arrogant and wrong of me to post. Sorry)

Please get over yourself. They didn't ask me and between my Cingular experience and reading the Verizon forum, JDPower is full of it...
Of course, I know that this is a legitimate survey and I know very well who JDPower is, so put up your flame-throwers already. They used to say that the Yugo was a family-friendly durable and reliable automobile, too. (Ahem) You are old enough to remember the Yugo, right?
Nope, I don't work for Cingular or any other phone-related company. I just have a bad habit of calling people on their pompous, self-serving behavior. And don't be asking the folks in Jackson, MS about Verizon. All of the Verizon customers I know here feel as though they've been sold a bag of dirt laundry. I almost switched and for no reason than to check out Verizon, but I'm really glad I didn't.
Enjoy that Verizon service (cough, hack).

Yep, and I've worked for Alltel, T-Mobile, and now Verizon Wireless. I'm glad you're having a good experience with Cingular. They're a good company and very strong nationwide. I'm just responding basically to a post earlier last week where a Cingular rep stated that he was going to be coming up with news that Cingular beat VZW in the month of August.

To give a more balanced look at the results:
Study results by region are:
Northeast Region: Verizon Wireless ranks highest for a third consecutive reporting period. Verizon Wireless performs well due to fewer problems experienced with static/interference, dropped/disconnected calls, initial connections, voice distortion and echoes.
Mid-Atlantic Region: Verizon Wireless ranks highest, outperforming the regional average in initial connections.
Southeast Region: Alltel, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless rank highest in a tie. Alltel customers report fewer problems with text mail notification, drops/disconnects and voice distortion. T-Mobile performs well due to fewer problems experienced with static and echoes. Verizon Wireless customers report fewer problems with voice distortion and drops and disconnects.
North Central Region: U.S. Cellular ranks highest for a second consecutive reporting period with fewer problems for static, initial connections and timely text message notification..
Southwest Region: Alltel ranks highest in this region for the first time, with customers reporting fewer problems with echoes and timely voice message notification.
West Region: T-Mobile ranks highest for a second consecutive reporting period in this region, performing particularly well in initial connections and have fewer dropped/disconnected calls.
