TSTT Switches Off TDMA Network - Loses CEO
Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) shops have been flooded this week as customers raced to beat a deadline that ended last night to switch their old TDMA handsets to GSM models. The TDMA network was switched off at midnight. TSTT has been promoting the switch over for most of this year, but there were still a few hundred customers who had not migrated to the new network.
However, many of the bmobile branded stores were reported to be struggling with the flood, and had often run out of GSM SIM cards for their customers. All the remaining TDMA customers had received a final warning by SMS earlier this week.
TSTT also announced the resignation of Carlos Espinal as its Chief Executive Officer on Wednesday with effect from yesterday He said he is leaving for personal reasons. It is expected that the Board will make an announcement on a successor by the end of September 2006.
Mr. Samuel Martin, Chairman of TSTT, had the following comments about this transition. "Carlos Espinal brought a wealth of experience and a passion and commitment to TSTT during his tenure. His positive contribution will be well kept and enhanced by the experienced management team in place in the company."
The departing CEO had the following comments about his resignation. "I leave TSTT and Trinidad and Tobago with a lot of mixed feelings, sad because of the many great moments and great friends I made both internal and external to the company, but confident that a spirit of success and the methodology to achieve it has been instilled in the company. I want to thank all the employees, the Executive Management Team, the Board and our customers for their support during my stay."

It's human nature to wait to the last min to get things done no matter how many notices and warnings you give them they will still ride it out to the last min

i get tdma customers all the time who say they are holding onto their phones like it's the last one on earth and that they'll stay with tdma until they absolutely have to switch.
i can't remember if you're only gsm elmo, but you may have heard the same. it's probably going to be a certain amount of haste at the end for cingular custoemrs as well.
the only people i really feel sorry for are the bmw/mercedes owners who have a tdma car phone hooked up to there dash with speakerphone through their speakers/gps, etc.
what are they gonna do?

I started as TDMA... went GSM... now I cover a mixed split...
I've had a few 2g dealer installs call...there is nothing that we can do... these devices are built in... and I mean in...no phone body...a circuit board inside the dash... send/end in the steering wheel...oh well...80K car and a useless phone...
evedently Mercedes has a GSM conversion kit of some sort...

yeah. i always tell them to contact the car dealer 'cause ccnet used to give info about these phones and how the car manufacturer kinda acts as a 3rd party vendor for the phones in this case. but since ccnet is gone, i can't find ANY info anywhere. i'm sure they have some kind of resolution for these people...they'd have to.
p.s. "resolution" was the only word i could think of to fit the sentence. i myself, find it a little sad
