Hi All,
I'm new to the boards and I'd like some advice. I go to college in Cleveland, OH, and I've been with Verizon for 3 years now, never had a problem. This year I move into a place of my own 2 blocks away from the dorms, and my reception does down the drain. It gets so bad at times that I get analog and roaming at the same time
My roommate has Sprint and gets 5 bars in our apartment...Switching providers is out of the question since I'm under contract, and I've been happy with Verizon. So I guess the only other option is to switch to a better phone. I have a Samsung A650, which is pretty old anyways considering how fast new phones come out.
So please recommend me some phones that get great reception. I don't really care about extra things like cameras or mp3 players, I just want a solid phone first and foremost.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks all.

LG 5300 and Samsung A870 should do well for you, since they're tri-mode phones and have reputations for picking up good service. Remember, if you get the phone back to your apt and find that it doesn't work as well as you thought, you can return it within 15 days.

I looked up reviews on both phones and they both sound solid. I don't really like the designs however.
Does anyone have an opinion about the Motorola V325?

My Verizon V325 has great reception (digital with analog fallback) and great battery life. It always outperforms my wife's RAZR V3m. On a recent camping trip, the lone V325 was the only phone to get any reception.
Another phone to look at is the LG VX5300 with analog fallback and bluetooth. (A coworker selected this phone for in car bluetooth use).
Reception in my area is sketchy, so the V325 performance in impressive.

I also have the Moto V325, never a problem.. Also as I may have posted elsewhere, a tech support rep stated best phone for reception, signal.. Not a lot of frills, considered middle of the road as far as vcast, etc. But it does have VZ navigator which has helped myself few times, (besides, it is fun to play with, lot of info in it, great phone in my opinion! :0
