Hello, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to cellphones. Never felt the need for one, and am only getting one out of necessity icon_smile.gif

Anyway, here's the situation. I just opened a 1-yr basic 300min single-line plan (SLP). Will I be able to merge this SLP into an existing family plan? Since I got a new phone with the SLP, will I have to wait till the 1-yr contract expires before joining the family plan?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

Who's account is the family plan under - Is it in your name or someone elses?

If it is in your name it's easy, just call and they can do the account move.

If it isn't, then you need to call, tell T-Mobile you need to do a Change of Responsiblity on the account. You'll agree to let the line out of your name, then the person who is adding it to their account has to call.

First off, they need to qualify to add another line, if they do then they accept the responsiblity and the line gets moved over to that account.

Either way, you'll probably be paying $9.99 for the new line on the FT plan for it to be added on.

But no, you don't have to wait for the contract to be up, because no matter if it goes to an account in your name or in someone else's - That contract is still in effect and the person taking it over has to accept that they are bound by that countract.

Let me know if you have more questions!

Wow, thanks a lot for the very informative reply m8.

Yes, both plans are under my name. So it should be as you said, very easy? Since I've already paid for the first month of service, I can ask to be moved into the family plan at the end of the month? Good credit history here, so no problem adding another line I'm sure.

I'll let you know if I have any other question. Thanks again icon_smile.gif

Ok, new question. If I have two brand new single-line plans, both were opened last month, I can join them together into one family plan any time I want?

Thanks.

Yup - Not a problem, it's an account move and once there are two lines on the same account we can put a familytime plan in place.

One last question. Let's say I opened a new single-line plan online, just received the package but haven't activated/opened anything yet. Can I still return it? Cancel the plan w/o getting bad credit? The reason is that I saw the same phone on Amazon.com for $150 less. That's a lot of money I could be saving.

Here's the problem - You activate a single line through Amazon you can't combine it with any other plan for 181 days. If you look on the Amazon site:

Quote:
Equipment Discount Information: Your price paid includes an Equipment Discount of $250 that has been provided to you by this T-Mobile-authorized agent for activating a new line of service with T-Mobile, and maintaining this new line of service with the selected rate plan in good standing for a minimum of 181 consecutive days. If these conditions are not met, you herein agree to a $250 reimbursement to be paid to this T-Mobile-authorized agent. This reimbursement of the $250 Equipment Discount will only be charged if the above conditions are not met.

So I don't think that would help you out much.

But if you do cancel and you are with in 14 days, no nothing bad would happen.

If i were to take a new line from Amazon ( a individual plan) and then can i immediately(within a month or so ) add on another person & upgrade that to a Family plan ? because amazon says that u shudnt "Downgrade u r plan ". Hence making u r s a family plan and adding another person who is already with TMobile shudnt be a problem right ?

That's going to depend on if amazon thinks that's a downgrade or not. I'd check with them.
