The Samsung T619 phone, sold by T-Mobile, can definitely have the user's own songs used as caller ring tones. As you can tell by all the people that have posted on this forum, there is a wide variety of ways to do it, and some people are having success and some are not. I have converted 15 or so songs and uploaded them to the phone by way of bluetooth, and they all work as caller ring tones. When a different person calls me, the song I assigned to them plays as the ring tone.
I have done my Mp3 song conversions on an Apple Macintosh, by 2 different methods, and both have worked well. The Mp3 song should be clipped to 20 to 30 seconds (any more serves no purpose), and then converted to a format known as AAC (Mp4 format). After the conversion, the song name should end in .M4a. The .M4a can then be backspaced away and replaced with .3gp. When the file is ported over to the phone by way of bluetooth, it will end up in the "My Files" in the music folder. It can then be selected as a ring tone or a caller ring tone.
On the Macintosh, I have done the conversions using a freeware program called Max, and I have also done it using Apple's iTunes. Both methods have worked equally as well for me.
I know this all works on the T619 phone, because I have done so many conversions that all play wonderfully on my phone. I have sent some of my songs to other people as attachments, and all but one person have been successful in using them. I have not figured out yet why that one person has not been successful.
Let me know what I can do to help.

I just got my t619
I have tried the following (and bluetoothed over to my music)
-converting from mp3 to 3gp
-converting from mp3 to m4a and renaming it a 3gp file extension
both times, it bluetooths over fine, its an option in the ringers (settings/sond settings/incoming call) and I set it - but when I get calls it goes to that annoying tmobile ring instead of the ringer I set
I have tried sending it over to the "my sounds" folder like it says on the t-mobile website (when you choose ringers, all the hifi/megatones are under mysounds, my mp3/m4a/3gp or whatever file winds up in "my music"), but everytime I try to send my file to this folder I get an FTP error from bluetooth.
Any ideas?

If you have properly converted the Mp3 song to the AAC (Mp4) format, then its name will end in .M4a. If the .M4a suffix is backspaced away and replaced with .3gp, the T619 phone will accept it as a ring tone after it is sent over by way of bluetooth. When the song it sent to the phone, it will by default be placed in the music folder under My Files. It can be set as a ring tone by selecting it from the music folder, or by going to the Settings folder, and selecting Sound Settings.
Lets make sure I understand your scenario correctly:
1. You have been successful in converting a Mp3 song to AAC format and renaming it .3gp.
2. You have been successful in bluetoothing the song over to the phone, and it shows up in your music folder.
3. The phone allows you to select the song as a ring tone (meaning the select as a ring tone is not grayed out).
4. After you select the song and then dial the phone, it rings with the old standard T-Mobile ring tone.
Am I understanding correctly?
If I am, then select the .3gp song from your music folder, and from the menu select Properties. Make sure it shows the format to be 3gp.
Is the song you have ported over a 20 to 30 second clip, or a full length song? When you converted the song to AAC format, did you do it at 64 bps (bits per second), 128 bps, or some other quality. All of my ring tone songs are 20 to 30 second clips at 64 bps, and they work fine. I have also ported over a full length song, and it worked fine.
Have you tried moving songs to the phone using the software available for free at the Samsung web site? That is not the way I do it, but others in this forum have had success doing it that way.
Provide more information (details) and I am sure your problem can be solved.

I did exactly as you said - it appears on my phone, it gives me the option to select it as a ringtone - when I go back to the sounds menu it says its my existing ring tone
then when people call it goes to the default annoying tmobile melody

After reading thru all this, the easiest way I found to add ring tones to the t619 is as follow:
1. Edit you song with wavepad or like program
2. Save as MP3
3. Put your song into iTunes and convert it to ACC/m4a (the right click menu will show it)
4. re-name the file as a .3gp file
5. goto funformobile*com and upload it as a video (must have mobile web)
Works like a charm

Cretinx:
If your phone recognizes the music file as a .3gp, and it allows you to select it as a ring tone, then it definitely should play when someone calls you. The fact that the song is not playing as a ring tone indicates either an issue with the phone (hardware or software glitch) or there is still an issue with the converted song.
If you want to provide me with an e-mail address, I will send you a couple of .3gp clips that I use on my phone. If they do not work on your phone, then your phone has the problem. If they do work, then your converted songs are still the issue.
