when i use the .3gp ringers, my phone always goes "not supported content", so the only way for me to use mp3 ringers is to convert them to an amr format.

How do you go about doing that?

Step by step:

1. Select that bad Scott Stapp song as your ringtone.
2. Exit the menu (saving of course).
3. Go back into selecting ringtone, press Select on grayed out mp3 you want (nothing will happen to show you selected).
4. Press back.
5. Press save.
6. Exit menu.
7. Close phone.
8. Call yourself.

I can't believe it worked, but it did. Must be Samsung's way of saying "we don't really want to do this, but we want tmo's business".

Why do you close the phone?
Everytime i did this without closing the phone, my phone rang at sound level 1, no matter the settings. Once the phone was closed, and i received a call, it worked at the correct sound level.

What if I already deleted that bad Scott Stapp song?
You need to start with a ringtone in the music folder. Follow the directions earlier for converting an mp3 to 3gp (I used the free program), and start with the 3gp file.

Now I don't have to take the phone back!

I finally got it to work with an MP4 by following the Stapp, select gray, back, save method.

Now, anyone know how to assign different MP3's or MP4's as different ringtones for each contact? I tried the same method, but it doesn't save.

you guys are awesome. icon_biggrin.gif

i did the winxmedia conversion. at first it didnt work, while trying to transfer the file to my video downloads folder, it said,"erro. this file contains audio only."

then i changed the frames per second option from 15 to, same as souce, and it worked great. the song was selectable in my ringtones option.

and the trick to selecting unselectable songs be first selecting that freebie one then hitting "select" then "back" and closing the phone..... that method worked also for a music file that i tried to transfer to my phone earlier as an mp3 file.

im so glad the guy at customer service gave me the address to, not only this site, but this very thread. icon_ninja.gif

who know there were such helpful customer service people around? this guy was very knowledgeable, helpful and sincere.

now i am almost please with my phone. still need to look into the camera and how many full songs the phone will hold, and if it can be used like an ipod. then i would be happier then a pig in ****.

Worked like a charm jgsmith99, thanks for posting that.

Does anyone know how to get this to work on specific contacts?

Thanks - Kevin

I have a Samsung t619 phone and have been reading everything on this post for adding ringtones to my phone. Here's what I ended up doing and it's worked perfectly -
using Nero - edit audio - I open the mp3 and cut it down to 60 seconds (anymore and it errors out when I try to download to phone). I save it as an mp4 file and then just rename it to .3pg file. I then use mobstorage*com to upload the file. You will get a code when upload is complete. Then using my phones browser I go to wap.mobstorage*com and enter the code and download it. I can then share with other phones that have bluetooth.

Thanks for the help. Who wants to pay for ringtones?

Sup, If you deleted the scott strapp ringtone already on your phone so you could use as much memory for mp3s your not out of luck. Go to tmobile web and you can re download the scott strapp ringtone needed to enable your other (greyed out downloaded) ringtones. I did this and the directions above worked fne. I called myself both with the phone closed using the handsfree headset, and with the phone open (both times got my voicemail). Also that mobstorage*com way works fine for me if im using mp3s but when I'd try mp4 and .3dg <or whatever it is) a notice would come up on my tmoble browser sayin that the file was too big when in fact it was well under the 2000kb limit. But if your doing the scott strapp method, mp3s work fine. So instead of converting mp3s into 2 or 3 different forms and then trying to get it to work I'd just rebuy the scott strapp ringtone - the great divide (hi-fi ringer I believe) ($2.49). icon_ninja.gif
