and enter in your phone number. I believe you need to be signed up for Cingular Online and have the CU500 set as your current phone. Once you enter in your phone number, accept the terms and conditions and make sure your phone is powered on. You should recieve a message asking if you would like to update. Agree, and the update takes about a minute to download (on 3G, probably longer on EDGE). Then your phone will power cycle and the installation takes about 5 minutes.

no it doesnt fix 2gb problem, this is what update does fix.
1. Expired wap push message is displayed as a blank message when opened rather that notifying the user the message has expired
2. Device may lock up if 3G/UMTS network goes offline then comes back online
3. When passing out of 3G/UMTS into GSM coverage, the device may power cycle several times before registering on the GSM network
4. Default ringtone may be played even though user has specified a different downloaded ringtone
5. Device becomes SIM/Subsidy locked when power cycled following a PIN lock (PUK request)
6. Missed call notification does not display until hours after the actual time the call was missed

I am not impressed. What exactly did they fix in this "long anticipated" software release? What are these programmers being paid to do?
Gawhd, if only... in a perfect world, the source code, or at the very least the core API, would be available for anyone to download and take in whatever direction they fancied.. What cool phones we could have then.
Imagine a Linux-based alternative OS for the CU500...
Hardware-wise, the CU500 is really slick. Software wise, speaking as a programmer, I think it is some of the lousiest and laziest work I have seen.
I mean, after all this time (and presumably effort), the #1 most annoying feature on my phone-- the inability to do anything about that obnoxious, tacky, and loud confirmation tone--is still very much the #1 most annoying feature. How many man-hours would it take to put a preference into the Ringtone Settings to control the volume and behavior of this.
Ah well... se la vie..
I predict in a few years (after Apple comes in to the market and schools these greedy and careless cell corps on how it is done), we will begin seeing some pretty nice OS options in our phones..
As it is, I am trapped in a 2 year agreement, stuck with a phone I only 60% like..

Well. I use Audacity to chop up my music files, you just gotta make sure to get the mp3 plug-in. It's free and realativly easy. I believe a simple google search for Audacity download will get you the link, and add in Mp3 plug-in and it should give you the necessart tool. So therer you go.
