I followed the directions about 3 times now and I can't seem to get it to work. I'm having trouble installing my phone with Mobile Phone Tools. Everytime I go to set up my phone with Mobile Phone Tools, it won't recognize my phone at all. Has anyone else had this problem?

1. I have installed the MPT. When I get to the page Installing MPT it displays "Please make sure your phone is not locked. Please select on how you will be connecting your Phone to your PC." It gives me 3 options: USB Cable, Bluetooth, Infrared. I choose USB Cable then hit Next. Note that I do no have my phone yet connected to my PC.

2. The next screen is Phone Setup. It reads "Please turn your phone on and connect it to the cable, then connect your cable to your PC." "your phone will be detected and set up automatically." At this time I connect the cable to my phone(already turned on) then I connect the cable to my computer, via USB port. (I've tried 3 different USB ports on my computer to make sure that each one was working). After I plug in my phone, I get a scren that says, " Please wait, your phone is being installed and set up."

3. This is where it gets all screwy. After it is done reading, the next window that pops up says "mobile phone tools will not function correctly without a mobile deviceinstalled. Do you want to install one now?" It gives you option buttons yes or no. If I click yes, it takes me back to step one (where I have to choose how I will connect to my PC). If I select no, opens MPT. The phone model is completely wrong, I believe that it's the default model for MPT. I cannot do any of the options.

Does anyone know why it won't recognize my phone? I have swapped USB ports, restarted my PC and phone 3 times. Unistalled MPT and reinstalled it. I believe that MPT is not recognizing my phone. I know that it is connected, beacause I have downloaded VCast music to my phone from my PC. Anyone have any ideas?

I am now at the same point.

Hello everyone,

I had the same problem the last 3? guys are having. MPT wasn't able to recognize my phone when doing the initial setup.

I noticed jwc1926's instructions on seem 2827 are for folks to click on bits 0-2-3-6 and, if you google around you'll find out the same bits need to be checked. You also find out these websites/forums are a couple months old.

I don't know if the latest MPT (I have version 4) has changed the way it recognizes the phone models but it seems like it doesn't want to deal with a "V3mM" kind.

I read on some site that they use SEEM: 2827 and Bytes(h) 0000, (jwc1926 suggests 22) and I don't know if this will make any difference, but I went with 0000 and clicked on "Load from phone"

So, I went to Offset 0004 and started clicking around until I ended up with bits 0-1-5-6 which turns the "m" to a "c" and makes the string say V.3.c.M.

Maybe this is what MPT needs to read instead of V3mM?

Well, I saved it, performed a reboot on my phone, tried MPT again and, to my surprise, it worked!

So of course I had to come here and let everyone know icon_biggrin.gif

I hope this helps all of you having trouble.
Many thanks to jwc1926 for such a thorough explanation and good luck to the rest!

Here's a quick recap:

On P2K Seem,

-Load Seem 2827, record set to 1, Bytes 0000 (if you wanna go my way)
-Offset 6 should already have bits 0-2-3-6 clicked, like jw's instructions read.

-Now, move to Offset 4 and set the bits to 0-1-5-6

-Click "Save to phone"
-Reboot Phone and try MPT again.

-Enjoy.

Peace.

Everything worked but teh only thing that is not showing up is the multimedia do you think it's because I needed to install MPT after setting up the codes?

I have the motorola krar, basically did the same steps but made mine a k1mm instead of the v3mm. anywho, moble phone tools now has the media studio and I can send files to my phone. Pics are fine but when I send a .wav or an .mp3 to my phone I can't play them. I can't even find where they are on the phone. I know they are there because the memory usage goes down. Am I supposed to save them to a specific folder or have them be a specific file type?

I basically want to put my own ringtones on my phone and plain ol' mp3's as well so I can have some music on the go. What can I do to view them on the phone?

FOR ANYONE ELSE who needs some direction, I used these sites and it helped:

b) Next type 2827 in the box for "seem," type 1 in the box for "record," and type 22 in the box for "bytes." Click "load from phone." Backup the current settings. After backing up, in the first row of values that appears, click over until you get to Offset 0006 (you can tell which offset you're on with your mouse by the comments that dynamically appear in the upper right "Seem Info" portion of the program window). Anyway, for offset 0006, check the boxes for 0-2-3-6 and make sure the rest are unchecked. click "save to phone."

All you've done is identify your phone as a V3c instead of a V3m because the verizon loser Capitalist pieces of crap blocked file transfer in V3m. Greedy corporate idiots. Incidentally, I hear they were/are being sued for this.

jwc I need ur help how do I turn my phone back into a v3m which boxes need to be checked or unchecked?

I just got my RAZR V3m (Verizon) and went through all these steps very carefully. I got all the way to being able to use MPT File Transfer Studio but, (there has to be a but) file transfers to the phone aren't working. I'm getting 'request denied by phone (forbidden(0x43)) or (unsupported media type(0x4F)) when trying to transfer an mp3. I was even able to use melody shop but the transfer wouldn't go. A possible clue: when I tried to do the Motorola Software Update it came back with 'you already have the latest'. The phone shows NewC_01.09.02 as the software version and MPT sees the phone as a V3mM. If it makes any difference, I do have a memory card installed. The phone still works fine otherwise.

Has Verizon one upped the game?

I can connect via Bluetooth, from my Verizon V3m to my wife's Cingular V551. When I try to transfer a ringtone to the V3m from the V551, it's says it unsupported media type, and fails. The V551 uses the mp3 format, I make them all the time for it.

I have also used BitPim, and I found the shared/ringtones folder and transfer the ringtone via that way. It transfered, and I rebooted the phone, and the ringtone is not in the list of ringtones on the phone.

What am I doing wrong?

I have done all the basic SEEM edits, the bluetooth, and the 'C' string edit.
