I've bought an unlocked Cingular Samsung SGH-D307 which I am going to use with my t-mobile service. The phone has IM capabilities. But IM requires t-zones and the T-Mobile rep told me that I will "not be able to use T-Mobile specific features ever" on this phone because it is not a T-Mobile phone.
A previous post indicated that someone was able to use t-zones with an unlocked Cingular Motorola SLVR -- after doing something with it.
Do you think that it will be possible to do the same for the Cingular Smasung SGH-D307? Or, should I just give up?

With the proper settings you should be able to use tzones. The settings have been discussed all over this forum if you do a search, and they may also be one the the sticky posts at the top of the first page.

Oh, you will be able to use TZones fine, you can even call to have them walk through the settings with you.. don't forget to get the MMS settings also. But IM is different. CIngular's phones use IM over GPRS. Through Tmobile's system, IMs are over SMS. That is why even if you have the correct servers, like the oscar server for AOL, there is still an excellent chance it will not work. If anyone finds out anything different, please email me!!

If you do figuer out how to get the IM working (if at all), would you please post it here as well? It's a feature I would really like to use, if possible.
Thanks very much for your responses. I feel much better now about purchasing the phone.

With an unlocked phone from another carrier it may not be possible to get the im service to work.

Try Yahoo mobile, just type in yahoo mobile in a search.it should come up and it is free. I sent it to my phone and it works for games, internet, etc. I do have T-mobile service and find this quite a bit better that their web service. Maybe you can IM on this? I am not sure, but I am just throwing this option out there. BTY, I love this phone! Texting is fun!
