usually you cant tell....some cingular customers will see "extended cingular"....or something like that....but generally can't tell....as i understand it.

well on the top of the screen will appear the letter 'R' for roaming and the cingular logo in the screen will disapear with another gsm provider.

that's not always true. if you're not on a national plan, it's best just to know your coverage area.
