Hey all,
Today I purchased a cable (im assuming its the DKU-5, it doesnt say what it is but a Google Image Search shows a very similar item) from my local Nokia Service Centre for €60. He told me it would work on my Nokia 3200 and Nokia 6230i. When I connect up the cable to my 3200, I get the following error;
"One of the USB Devices attached to the computer has malfunctioned, and windows does not recognise it".
PC Suite isnt recognising a connection either.
However, if I connect the Nokia 6230i - it works perfect.
Iv googled, and came across discussions on this forum a year old and links given no longer work. There seems to be some sort of discussion about getting the drivers online, some guy was emailing them. One other guy suggested connecting, switching profile back and forth (claimed it worked for him). That didnt work for me. From what I gather, its a very common error so im really hoping someone can help me fix this error.
Any ideas? Im baffled!
Thanks in advance.

Well, they lied to you.
Since it works with your 6230i I can say the cable is a DKU-2 or CA-53. This cable doesn't work with the 3200 which needs a DKU-5 or CA-42.
There is no way to make the cable work on the 3200.
I would say: bring the cable back, get your money back (way to pricy) and try to get both cables on eBay. Not the cheap ones for 1 Euro, but it is fair to say that a cable for at least 8 Euro should be original Nokia cable (e.g. on eBay Germany is an original DKU-2 cable for 9,99 Euro available).

Seriously? I asked him about their return policy and he told me unless its faulty, he wont refund / replace it. He told me it was like normaly €70 and its expensive because it will do both phones. He seemd fairly knowledgeble, and was giving me instructions and told me to use XP to do it etc. He also told me the phone (6230i) could do with a software upgrade and if I brought it in, he would do it (no charge - its under Nokia Guarntee).
I could of sworn I used a DKU-5 a few years back from a friend and it also never worked. I might see if I can get a hold of it again.
Btw, do you know if its possible to recover an deleted MMS Messages? There not stored on server by my network provider.
Thanks.

For the cable: for 60 Euro you can expect it will work, but it doesn't. And he lied to you. I would go there, tell them what's up and either they take it back or they get in serious trouble (either by making a show that every customer in the shop hears what happend or by threatening them with a lawyer).
There is no cable which supports both kinds of cable-types.
And sorry, no way to recover your lost MMS.

Is €60 not the standard retail price for such a cable?
So I need to point out that the cable doesnt support both phones, and that I need a cable that will support my old Nokia 3200. How much roughly is the retail price of this cable?

Nokia say 57 Euro (for Germany), but you normally get it anywhere cheaper than at Nokia and their retailers.
And both cables have the 57 Euro price tag.
That would be 114 Euro for two cables...
Yeah, say it won't work with both phone and that the salesman said it would... what it didn't.
Get your money back and if you don't mind the speed of file transfer: get an infrared dongle. It's compatible to both phones. You might need a cable for the dongle so it will be on your desk and not at the rear end of the computer if you'Ve got a notebook: they've got normally a built-in infrared device.
The device should be around 10-15 Euro + 5 for the cable.
And for the case you want to transfer music to the 6230i: get a card reader, would be around 10-15 Euro.

I bought two cables of eBay - a DKU-2 and a DKU-5. The DKU-5 came today, along with a CD which just so happened to be blank (contacted the seller). I tried connecting the phone, but Windows tried looking for drivers but failed. Also the Nokia PC Suite I install for the 6230i, is unable to pick up the connection (at least it doesnt do anything when scanning).
Any ideas? What should I do?
Thanks.

Edit:: Found the drivers for the cable on the Nokia Website (tho, apparently my cable isnt an actualy Nokia cable but is based on it.) and installed them. Connected phone, and its now looking to install a USB-UART Controller which it cant find.
Very confusing :S

Yeah, these replica cables are nasty.
For most the following works:
Install the cables of the replica cable. Than install the Nokia cable drivers. Than install PC Suite.

Hi,
What do you mean "Install the cables of the replica cable." -- I have no drivers for the replica cable.
