I am considering moving my existing Pay as you Go to a Prepaid plan instead. Can I just go to any cingular store and change the service. I go to college in Pennsylvania but live in upstate New York. So this is the reason I ask.
I did some searching on these forums and noticed I would only have to pay for a new SIM card. Is this true and is this the best way to do this. I spend about 25 dollars a month on minutes and pay the 10 cent a minute 1 dollar access fee plan now. I just think it would make more sense since I am on the edge of almost no minutes at the end of the month to switch it. I am a casual user that keeps conversations quick. I use probably a little over 100 minutes a month. Not sure haven't done the math. The thing is there really isn't a rate plan for me and a prepaid plan I think would make more sense.

I changed mine while on the phone with 611 didn't have to get a new sim as long as your service is active and you don't wish to change your phone number you can get the 29.99 phone plan.. (abotu 200 minutes a month) and they build up or if you use your phone more you start getting more options the more you pay per month like 69.99 unimited mobile to mobile and unlt nights and weekend. (as you go up you get more stuff less per minute by a little bit. )

Thank you Jadall thats awesome! One last question!
How much taxes do they tack on your bill around? Just wondering I realize it is different depending on the state. That is so cool that I don't even need to go to a store to get this done. I imagine this deactivates the old plan then right. About how long does it take. Reason I ask is based on how many funds I have right now in my account. I have about 4 dollars or something. I figure that would be enough to switch it.
Thanks!

they should be able to carry over the balance onto your new account and you have to place your auto monthly payment on that date so pick a day of month that is good for auto payment to come out each month when you call them(after first pay it is AUTO paid.. 39.99 plan is like I think 43-44 dollars. I had for a while 19.99 internet unlimited on it and the 39.99 plan (with 1000 n&w minutes I use 300-600 mins a month about half or more on night weekend very affordable if you call at night/weekend) it was 65.00 bucks.

One last question. From what I have been reading I can add minutes still so my cingular refill web account would probably still be active but they would change it. Now since I would be on a prepaid plan I would get my accounts access which I can't get with pay as you go right. So after I change it I become eligible immediately for this web service?
actually looks like i was wrong? I would login through pick your plan account and the pay as you go web account would be expired. They have two logins on this page.

Why do the plans say Roaming N/A next to them. Most cell phone companies don't charge for roaming anymore do they?
Sorry long day didn't read does say no roaming charges duh haha

Yeah it will just be on the pyp part. your phone will tell you if you have any n&w minutes etc if you have a plan that has that. and just like now it will tell you your balance after every call. (which annoys some people)

Yeah I just switched was pretty painless. Not sure if they carried over the balance but it was only a couple bucks. Oddly I can still login using cingularrefill.com but I can also login to selfincharge.com. So not sure if they forgot to disable something or not.
Also odd when I cehck my balance on the phone it displayes the dollar amount rather than the minutes. I thought it might be the other way around now that I switched.

no always shows dollar amount as they would be lying to you if they weren't because you have ability to use txt msg's internet etc which will subtract off the $ balance.. (like open the internet 1cent minimum etc) it's 10cents a text message on pyp the pay as you go it's 5 cents. (don't know why) but everything else is the same pretty much.
