Thanks for the tips gang. After reading through I was able to get it to work fine on my first try. For folks who have a Dell laptop that came with the Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED MB from the past year or so you can use the WaveStudio program. It works like a charm. Do be sure to make the file less than 30 seconds (i tried one at 38 sec and it didn't work) and save it in the mp3 format. The ringtone will appear in the "unkown artist" folder.

I downloaded the DRM Packager from Sony (http://developer.sonyericsson.com/site/global/docstools/misc/p_misc.j sp) but didn't need it. What was it for? (I didn't read all the posts)

This is how you do it. Download this program from sony. its free so dont worry. I cant post the link because i am a first time poster. Google search DRM packager

Install it. Pick the mp3s you want to use as a ringtone and drag them into the screen of the program and hit the "Create DRM Document". It will create a DRM folder. Copy these files to your phone anywhere you like them to be stored. This basically opens up the rights to use as a ringtone. You dont have to trim the song to 30 seconds. It can be as long as you want it to be. Also, once you convert them, you can still play them as mp3's on your computer so you dont have to have doubles. It works!

i did what you said and i'm still having the same problem. still won't let me use it as a ringtone.

hey mcaruana dude, thanx alooooott! i tried sooo many things., and at the end, it was so simple., thanx again. u saved me from breaking my phone with anger.lol

I did the DRM but it still doesnt work for cingular users. Its blocked. If I get the phone unlocked, will it allow me to play my mp3s as ringtones?

Alright for everybody who cant figure this out i just did and i will tell you how to do it, k so first get the DRM prgram up and choose your song (it can be the whole song) then drag it to the program, go to options then click configuration and under output folders there is 2 boxes clicked, unclick them ok, now you go where it says download descriptor and then click the box that says "Generate DD file(s) with the DRM content. once you've done that go back to where your song is click create DRM content, now just look where it says output directory and it will most likely say that its in my documents, but whatever it is go to that folder and then find the folder that says "DRM" and click on it and then your song that you converted shuld be there, now just plug your phone into your computer go to my computer and put it in either your phone or phone card what ever one, and then find it in your phone and then click more and click use as then say ringtone and then it will now be your ringtone. So there you go let me know if it works or not. Peace

Ok, I have the Sony Ericsson DRM Packager version 1.35. I keep looking through and doing what you've said, an I cannot for the life of me get it to work. I'm also using the Sony Ericsson W810i phone provided by Cingular. All I can figure is that somehow some way I'm not getting the right settings on my software. What settings do I need to use?
What is the proper DRM method to use?
What type of files should come out in the DRM folder?
What location do I move my files to on the phone?
and if possible, can I get some screen shots?

So, I managed to get this DRM thing to work perfectly twice; I successfully made myself two ringtones. However, when I tried to make the third, the DRM program stopped working like it was. All of the options are cleared, with no other available options. Anywhere where there should be options (throughout the configuration screen, the device type option where it should say Sony Ericsson. all blank with no other options!) So, I'm not exactly sure where I went wrong, or what the heck I did, but something's not right!
Help?
